Dell Optiplex 780 freezes on Windows 7

Hello,

I've been experiencing a very frustrating problem on my PC. Around 2 minutes after turning it on and entering the OS the screen freezes and there's nothing to do but force the PC to turn off pushing the power button.

I've updated the drivers, checked all the conections and nothing. It also seems that it happens more often whenever I connect the Ethernet cable before turning it (the PC) on. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem but I need to fix it ASAP since it is the computer I work with.

Here's a couple of screenshots of the PC characteristics (I hope you don't mind it is in Spanish):

Dell XPS - 630i replaced motherboard setup - no display - beep code not listed in the Manual

The XPS 630i motherboard failed (the Ethernet port and both PCI Express slots were not functioning).

I replaced the motherboard with one purchased on eBay and I used the CPU & memory sticks from the old motherboard, plus the GE Force GT640 video card and the hard drive with the previous installation of Windows7 on it, but then (due to health issues) it sat incompleted for a year. It just needed the waterblock and cooling system installed, which is just recently completed.

When attempting to start the computer, it plays a continuous beep for 25 seconds, pauses for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, pauses again for 10 seconds, beeps again for 5 seconds, then stops.

There's no video display.

I realize I may have to reset BIOS / CMOS, yet with no video display, I'm seeking to respond to this beep's meaning, learn what that means first - and then generally how to set up this new installation from here.

Thanks,

Dell Inspiron 570 - Ethernet Card Issues

I have been up for 14 hours working on this issue, and I am almost to the point of tears now.

I reset my Dell Inspiron 570 to Factory Settings, and the Ethernet controller needed a driver, so I installed the proper driver & chipset, and tried over, and over, and over. Nothing worked, the card is enabled in the Bios, I have tried over 10 different drivers, I have tried everything I can think of.

WDS error PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Error on Dell Optiplex 7040

WDS on Windows Server 2012 R2 has been working fine for me until now. We recently received a bunch of Dell Optiplex 7040  MT and we have been unable to boot from network (WDS) on it.

When I try to boot from it's Onboard NIC, after a few seconds it throws an error:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.

I have tried to boot in UEFI Mode too but the results are same.

Any type of help would be really appreciated.

T5500 memory options for 144GB?

I have a T5500 workstation with 2 processors and 9 memory slots including the 3 riser slots.

I want to max out the memory with a 9x16 = 144GB.

My question is the ranks that I need and if there are any restrictions.

16 GB RDIMMs are available is 1R, 2R and 4R and the T5500 can handle all of them, but I can find no information about maxing about the system memory and if is there are restriction of the number of DIMMs in each configuration.

Can all 9 be 4R or all 1R or even a mix of different ranks?

Dell - The new leader in horrible customer service XPS 8700 problems

I bought a Dell XPS 8700 last Aug ('15) for $999 from Costco online. We had problems almost immediately with the PC not powering up (at all). but since it occasionally worked, we waited too long to actually return the PC to Costco (beyond 90 days). We also did not install the PC until Nov '15 because we bought 5 PC's at once and it took time to install them all.

We called tech support and after four hours of getting the run around and "trouble-shooting" via phone with Dell's non-English speaking tech support staff, they finally agreed to send out a technician. Technician replaced power supply and on/off button. We thought it was fixed but no. We didn't really call Dale back because we never had time to spend another three or four hours on the phone and schedule another technician just way too time-consuming for us to do that and run a business so instead we suffered a long barely using the computer and using other computers that were working fine instead.

Fast-forward the clock today May 30, 2016. The computer is still under warranty till August 2016 I call Dell and explain the situation, and that we've already unsuccessfully had a field technician trying to fix the problem and they were unable to do so. I respectfully ask that they send a replacement computer as we didn't have the time to spend another 2 1/2 days troubleshooting with their phone tech-support team, and also field technicians they declined, stating that I should've called back after the first technician showed up. All I can tell you is I spent four hours this morning on the phone with Dell customer support who is apparently based in the Philippines. They were unable to completely create a case number with me I was so frustrated and just wanted a replacement, they would transfer me four times, and each time I was transferred I had to start from the beginning including starting with my contact information and tell them the issue and what went wrong. Each new customer support person would attempt to take me through the exact same troubleshooting sequence that I had already done earlier in the morning, it was so frustrating I just couldn't take anymore.

At this point I guess my only alternative is to take down to small claims court and get me a replacement computer that is NOT a lemon as a replacement, or file a case with the BBB. I am also going to write the President of Costco to strongly suggest that they cease doing business with Dell. Dell clearly tarnishes the Costco name.

In either case I will never ever ever ever ever buy a Dell computer again. I work in customer service field and in my 13 years providing excellent customer service, I've never had a company so dysfunctional, so disorganized, and so lacking in support &  concern for their customers. Dell has lost a customer for life, and I will tell everybody I talk to never, ever, ever, ever l, ever buy a Dell. I learned my $1,000 lesson...never again!!!

Will Intel Rapid Storage Technology work with W10

$

I have a Studio XPS 9100 running Windows 7, that I purchased 5 years ago (Apr 2011).  I have painstakingly gone through to make sure everything is working perfectly (at this snapshot in time) and corrected the few problems I had.  I think I will upgrade to W10 in June.

There is an app that was preinstalled by Dell, entitled "Intel Rapid Storage Technology".  Does anyone know if this will continue to function with W10?  If not, does that speed things up significantly, or is it not worth worrying about?

Is it possible to swap out the 525W PSU in my Precision T3500 Workstation with an 875W PSU from a Precision T5xxx Workstation?  If so, will I have to swap out the wiring harness as well?

If the harness has to be swapped out, do all the motherboard connectors match up with my T3500?  Thank you.

How to Factory Restore Inspiron 530 Desktop without Windows Vista Installation Disk

Hello, Everyone!

I have been trying to factory reset my desktop Dell Inspiron 530 with Windows Vista Home Premium for so long. I have tried the "Repair Your Computer" option in the F8 Advanced Boot Options when I restart it, but it just resumes normal start up. I have also tried to restore to an earlier time but it doesn't have any saved! I would really like to restart fresh without having to buy the Installation CD or anything else. Help?

Optiplex 9010 not detecting > 8gb

$

Hi,

I have an OptiPlex 9010dt on A22, and according to the technical guide, I should be able to install 16gb without issues using 4x4gb configuration.  I got 4 identical sticks of Kingston 1600 and installed them.  Here's the strange thing, no matter what I do, it only detects 8gb.

It detects slots 1&2 but labels 3&4 empty.

As troubleshooting I've tried moving the sticks around, but I get the same results.

If I remove 8gb and fill slots 1&4 the system detects the ram, similarly If I populate just 2&3.  But if you populate all 4 slots, it only detects 1&2.  I'm sure it's not an issue with either the Ram sticks or the slots.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

I have a 2 year old XPS 18 touch - and about one month ago it stopped working. I've tried to follow the posts here to get it into BIOS setup mode, and managed to do that once this week, replaced the hard disc and it worked for one day - but now it is exactly the same as before. the best I can do is to get the red, green, blue, black, white screens to flash

Can you help?

Compatibility of Motherboard Connections?

$

Working with an Inspiron I3847-3538BK. Originally I started out planning to buy a graphics card and power supply to boost up my system a bit and have it perform better with games.

I came upon the realization, though, that the card I had selected will not physically fit into this case. There is only about 9 inches of space before it would hit the hard drive cage, and I need at least a foot.

So, I decided screw it! I'll buy a case then, too. I have another issue now, though. Im trying to get sorted before the items arrive so I'll be prepared and have as little downtime as possible.

I've been told that the connections from the front I/O panel and power switch to the motherboard on the Dell original case may not match the connections that will be on the front I/O panel and power switch of the new case.  So the new case may not hook up to my existing motherboard. Maybe if someone has a pin-out diagram of those connectors?

Is anyone able to confirm whether or not I'll have an issue here? if I have to buy a motherboard, then so be it, but I'd like to do it asap so Im waiting as little time as possible.

Thanks times a milliion!

Hello,

Does Optiplex 3020 support the Intel Rapid Storage Technology. Is it possible to create a RAID-1 volume with IRST if a 2nd HDD is added?

If yes, is it compulsory to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch?

Tips for upgrading Dell Inspiron Zino HD 400

$

Hello all,

Just want to share some tips for upgrading of Zino HD 400. I am not a professional in the business, just like to have fun with computers. So, since 2010 I own one nice piece of Zino HD 400 that was used as media-PC. It was delivered with 6850e processor, HD4330 graphic and 3 GB of RAM. So far so good, and the machine was working without problems. Only had to change graphic fan once in 2012 or something.

And now in 2016 it was about time to upgrade. I was thinking of buying a new machine, but instead decided to upgrade existing Zino HD 400. Why use money on old *** when you can buy a new stuff for same amount? Don't have propper answer, I think I only wanted to have some fun...

Here is what I did:

- new processor: AMD Athlon II X2 270u (AD270USCK23GM) - works without problems, I think I gained about 20 % more processing power compared to old 6850e. Be aware that I used 270u, which is low energy processor. Worked right out of the box. I got mine used through e-bay.

- 8 GB of RAM: this is must, two modules of 4 GB and you are safe

- Harddisc: Samsung 850 EVO Series 500GB - out with old 7200 rpm disc, and inn with new SSD. Had to use double-sided tape to make it sit propper in cradle.

- Blue-Ray: inn with BD, out with DVD. Just change the front bezel.

- Graphic: ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 1GB - worked out of the box, without problems after installing drivers. Please be aware that the slot on motherboard is MXM 3.0 so you must find the compatible card size. I got mine through e-bay, part number VG.M9606.009, 216-0729042.

- Windows 10 - clean install of W10, works like a charm, starts up within seconds.

It is hard to tell how much money I spent because some parts are bought through e-bay, and some through my local norwegian store.

Cheers!

Optiplex 380 memory upgrade

Hi,

I have looked around the forums and saw that I should be able to upgrade my 380 SFF to 8GB ram. Please see the link below:

It details both 1.35 and 1.5 V memory, will the pack of 2 x 4GB work? I assume Crucial know what their stuff.

I have updated the BIOS already so I should be ready to go. I am also getting a HD5450 graphics card so I am hoping the machine will be pretty fast and still quiet, Windows 10 upgrade already done, it's all coming together. :)

Thanks in advance.
