The fan on the video board is noisy, especially at start up. The board is the original Nvidia GeForce GT705.

The desktop is 11 months old and under guarantee. Dell provided a replacement video board (after a 90 minute phone call) and I have installed. Guess what - new video board fan is just as noisy.

I know others have had the same issue but I can't find any reference to the issue being resolved properly other than buying a better board or a better desktop.

Any solutions?

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade this computer so that I can use if for music. I took one of the 300gb hard drives out and replaced it for a 2tb - I didn't realise the drives were raided. How do I turn raid off and use it normally.

Also does anybody know the memory cards that are supported - it currently has space for 8 - however there are 4 1gb memory cards currently installed.

Powers up but would not boot up. Blank monitor. Cant get into Bios. It powers down by itself after seconds, tens of seconds, minutes, or tens of minutes..Tried this many times.

Moved ram to other slot and it booted to Bios and windows. If it stayed on that long. After a while it shut down again by itself. Tried this many times.

Swapped out HDD, power supply, and ram one by one with known good. Problem remains. That is it boots up, then powers down by itself after seconds, tens of seconds, minutes, or tens of minutes..Tried this many times.

When ever I plug in a power supply (tried several), it starts up for a few seconds, then powers down. Once it did not power down for several minutes. Once while looking at it, it powered up all by itself.

While powered up touching/wiggling the power button does nothing.

ideas? Im guessing the board is toast. Might the processor still be good? Will this processor fit into a optiplex 380?

Hello

I am new to this forum and not very knowledgeable on tech things!  I have googled and run through the things I'm supposed to do or look at to diagnose the problem as best I can but to no avail. 

I have a Inspiron 3847 which is on Windows 10 (upgrade) with an Intel Pentium CPU G3240  3.10GHZ  and 4GB RAM. 

In the last months when shutting down my computer on at least half a dozen occasions it just won't power off. The monitor goes into sleep mode but the fan and disk drive are still whirring for minutes and I have to force it to shut down by holding down the power button. 

I have looked at the event log and aside from critical errors resulting from my forced shutdowns I have a couple of Kernel-EventTracing  errors (ID 2 and 3) at around the time I tried to shut down.  

Windows is up to date. All drivers and the BIOS is up to date. I ran the Del full system test and everything is fine. 

Can anyone offer any suggestions please.

Hi,

Huh, just realized I landed in the english section...

So here it is in english:

I'm setting up this DELL XPS-8700 with Win 8.1 (clean install). I succesfully istalled all drivers from the support-page except this one:

XPS-8700_Chipset_Driver_V2D47_WN_9.4.0.1021_A00.EXE

Error-code:

Error during copying of files.

Setup aborted.

I already extracted the files and tried using the setup.exe in there but still no success.

Unfortunately I don't even know what Motherboard exactly I'm dealing with...

Please, where do I find a known-to-work and up-to-date driver?

The issue is the SM-Bus-Controller is not recognized.

I can provide an error log if it helps.

Setze gerade einen DELL XPS-8700 mit Win 8.1 neu auf (clean install). Habe alle Treiber von der Support-Seite erfolgreich installiert, bis auf den hier:

Meldung:

Fehler beim Kopieren der Dateien.

Setup wird abgebrochen.

Nun habe ich die Dateien schon extrahiert und die darin enthaltene Setup.exe ausgeführt, aber auch hier selber Fehler.

Leider weiß ich nichtmal, mit was für einem Motherboard genau ich es hier zu tun habe...

Wo bitte finde ich einen aktuellen, funktionierenden Treiber?

I have a inspiron 3847and have been have connectivity problems with fios on demand. Techs tell me to check the connections  and during the check I noticed a blinking yellow light and a solid amber light next to the port. My question is what are these lights for and should it be blinking?  Would this be the causing the problem I mentioned above ?

I am having a hard time find a RAID management software to install into Windows 10 x64 in order to create raid sets, check their status, manage them, etc. I can only do this via BIOS menu right now which is not convenient.

I have checked the support page for the DELL PERC H310 and it has no downloads, it says they are included with the supported platform and a link that just goes back to the list of devices to get support on.

I then checked the support page for my precision workstation T7600 which has no RAID management software. This card came with my machine. When I use my service tag, I get even less drivers/software choices and still no RAID Software.

I see references to "Dell SAS RAID Storage Manager 6.1" but no link to download found anywhere, only documentation and another message that the software is available on the appropriate platform with a link back to the list of products.

I see reference to "DELL Lifecycle Controller" but no link to download found anywhere and no support page I can find.

I am kind of surprised it is so difficult to find this on the DELL website. Things like this used to be so easy to find. Please help me if you know how to just get a simple RAID storage manager that has the same functionality of the BIOS menu.

During boot up my Precision M6500  no longer gets me to bios (F2) or boot order (F12)  screens.

This happened after careless mistake  I made. I had installed a new SSD drive and accidentally set SATA settings to ATA instead of setting to AHCI. Before I realized my mistake I had already put it to reboot.  During the reboot  it just went into a blinking cursor.

Every time I hit F2  it shows me the line "Preparing to Go to Setup" but ends up in a blinking cursor without going anywhere.

When I hit F12 it shows me the line " Preparing to go to One time Boot Menu" but ens up in a blnking curosr without going anywhere further.

Try to boot with a bootable USB thum drive or my Win2Go hard drive fails too.

But now it no longer boots to a  hard drive/usb drive.  Or a external DVD Drive with bootable Windows CD(I have a bad CD drive so that is not an option to try.)

Seems like I corrupted my Bios. I am not sure what are my next steps should be to recover from this.

I have an approximately three year old XPS 27 running W10. It has just started to reject discs as soon as they are inserted. Any suggestions??

hi

i have dell t5500.

using single xeon L5630 and doing prime95 for small ffts after 30 minutes its temps would be at 55 degrees for every core  even using the dell U016F with halnzyie hy880 thermal paste.

i attached small 60mm 12volts (0.16 amps ) fan to it. now its temps are 10-16 degrees cooler.

no noticeable increase in noise.

here are specs of the fan ,, the heatsink can accomodate 70mm fan as well.

screenshots of  hwmonitor and prime95 using default cooler and a fan attached to it are shown.

pics of how the fan is attached to cooler is also attached.

i hope this helps someone.

A new customer of mine has a Vostro 460 of about 4 yrs age.  The network card is running at 10 meg.  These are due to be replaced in a month or so so I thought I would just drop in a separate network card in the interim.

The card shows up in the device manager and appears fine but a) no light shows on it when the cable is plugged in and b) does not work (obviously).

The card is a Startech ST1000SPEX2 card (PCIe card, 1Gb, x1) so I tried it in the first x1 slot next to the x16 slot on the motherboard.

Tried the usual reboots, tried to find a setting in BIOS for disabling the onboard NIC (did I miss it?) but ran out of time.  Customer is 2 hours away with no remote support (soon to be rectified!).

Any suggestions?  I am not primarily a hardware guy (database developer) but know my way around equipment - just need some suggestions to try.  Someone suggested onboard jumpers but I did not think those were used much anymore.

I got a Optiplex GX260 that I'd like to transfer files from on to my laptop, but unfortunately for me, nothing is happening.

I connect the cable to the hard drive where there's a solid light for about a minute before it starts blinking which I assume is not a good indicator and under Devices And Printers a drive named BACKUP+ appears which I assume is a good sign except when it promptly becomes labeled as unspecified then disappears, so I made a desktop shortcut to avoid this.

Only problem is the file can't be opened, attempting to do so just opens the properties menu which doesn't give me an option to the explore the files on the drive.

Is something wrong with the means in which I'm attempting to recover my files or should I perhaps try to get the issue with the PC fixed (it's either the mother board or cooling system)? Or it is a lost cause?

I purchased a used Optiplex 7010 MT from ebay, but I am starting to wonder if there is a problem with the motherboard, specifically with one of the system memory channels. 

The PC came with a single Nanya brand RAM Module 4GB (DDR3-1600) DIMM located in the slot #2 position.

I tried to upgrade the RAM using some G.Skill Ripjaws X RAM (DDR3-1600), 4GB x 4, with all slots filled.

The PC will not post or even get to the PSA Diagnostics. Instead the Power button flashes 2,3 which indicates "system board, memory or CPU failure"

So I played around a bit, and I discovered that I can put ANY of the RAM in slots 2 or 4, and the Computer will post and runs fine, but if I put any RAM in slots 1 or 3, (with or without any RAM installed in slots 2 or 4) then I get the same error code, "system board, memory or CPU failure".

This tells me that my RAM is fine, since the system WILL recognize it in slots 2 & 4.

I even tried installing the Nanya RAM module in Slot 1 and in slot 3, by itself, and the error persists.

I have even tried upgrading the BIOS Firmware. It's currently running BIOS version A20, with no solution to the problem.

The system is currently function fine with 4GB RAM sticks in slots 2 & 4, for a total of 8GB, although when I check the BIOS status, it shows that the 8GB of RAM is in "Single Channel mode"

My question is:

Is my motherboard faulty, or is there some setting I need to select before my system will recognize the RAM in Slots 1 & 3?

I have the Dell XPS 8700 Desktop with a 2TB drive.  If I will be doing some video editing with Adobe Premiere CC, should I store all my video files on the OS C: drive? Or, should I purchase an additional internal hard drive (i'm thinking a WD Black 7200 4TB drive) to work off of?

I have an XPS 8500, running Win7 Home Premium.

I ran the Detect Drivers service on Dell's website, and one of the recommended drivers is Intel AMT HECI Driver, with a release date of March 2, 2013. The driver files in the relevant folder on my PC (C:\Drivers\storage\DWW4Y\Drivers\MEI) are all dated 11/10/2011, so a March 2013 driver would certainly be a newer version.

But when I run the installation file Dell sent me (ME_Intel_W74_A00_Setup-DWW4Y_ZPE.exe), it gives me a message that warns me that the version already installed (which it reports is 8.1.0.1263) is *newer* than the one I'm trying to install.

So it sounds to me like either (1) Dell sent me the wrong installation file, or (2) the installation file mistakenly thinks my original driver is newer.

Anybody know what's going on here?

Hi guys I have a dell e510 desktop that I've upgraded and I just ordered more ram an it came in yesterday, I had 2gb of ram but then I ordered another 2gb for a total of 4gb of ram. But my problem is that my computer is not reading the 4th ram stick, it only reads up to 3.0gb but when I install the 4th stick my desktop boots up but shows a blinking line and just sits there and won't even go to the dell screen.i try open ***. /male-perf-avis/ ;but could not do   Can anyone help??

I have a Xeon e5 2670 (v1) that I want to put in a T5610 motherboard, GN6JF is the model of the board.

The T5610's shipped with the e5-2600 v2 series, but I don't see any reason why the prior gen wouldn't work. (and I know that lga2011-v3  xeons are a different story altogether)... 

They're the same socket, and the same c602 chipset is used in say the T3600 which was shipped with v1's. They would have to deliberately leave out the microcode for v1's in the bios for it to not work? I checked the ASUS sabertooth x79 board's cpu support just for reference and the only Xeons it lists are v2, though.

I called Dell support and the specialist I talked to said it'd be fine.

If anyone could clear this up for me with 100% certainty that'd be awesome. Google yields nothing
