xps8910 noise

$

I have bought a new XPS8910 with i7 and gtx960.

The fans (don't know which so far) make not very high, but constant and hearable noise. I don't like a constant noise in my living room. When I run CPU-intensive programs, the fans become noisier, but that is ok, because I do not have to hear it all time.

Is it possible to replace the fans (or the PSU) or take other measures to get the machine more quiet?

Thank you in advance

Peter

Inspiron 20 Model 3043

One of our machines is a Dell Inspiron 20 3043 model.

Recently it has started failing to boot Windows and failing to a black screen that displays "Checking Media" – after some investigating it would appear that the hard drive has failed. Gone into the bios and ran the diagnostics which has returned error 2000-0151 on the hard drives tab.

I have reseated the hard drive to no avail.

Details displayed on the bios screen are-
INSYDEH20 Setup Utility
BIOS Version: A07
Product Name: Inspiron 20 Model 3043

This particular model does not have a CD or DVD drive.

What is the best way to get this repaired?

If I put a new hard drive in it's going to have nothing on there so it won't boot anything, if I installed something like linux onto an external hard drive then plug it in via usb how do I get it to boot from that?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Inspiron 3650 Windows 10 Bluetooth disappeared from action center & devices

Hello I have been using my Bluetooth for gaming the last few days and when I booted my computer up today a Dell Inspiron 3650 the Bluetooth button had disappeared from the action center. So I went to my settings and devices and it was no longer there either. I checked my device manager and it was still there but with an error symbol as you can see below.

Now when I updated the drivers, it says it was current. I uninstalled it, reinstalled and rebooted and nothing worked. It kept giving the above error message. I have done nothing different or added anything new to the computer the last few days so I don't know what has caused this to happen. If anyone can help me fix this issue I would be greatly appreciative.

(I think) Rare problem with Dell insiron PC

I have a Dell inspiron, I'm not sure of the exact model but yeah... Yesterday, I came back after a long time and I know im a baddy but i had just put my PC on sleep instead of turning it off but for the about 4 years i had it and always let it on sleep, turing it off and on only a few times, appart for updates, this isnt the problem, im pretty sure. The problem that i have is for me and my friends unseen: the tower displays the power button with the white LED meaning its on but said computer is litteraly not interacting with any of my perihperals. Only a USB lamp is receiving power. I have gaming hardware meaning I vhanged the graphics card from the included GT 620 to a GeForce GTX 960 but that was about 2 years ago or less, I have a mouse that lights up and  this chrismas i just got a keyboard that lights up to, normaly those light up when the computer booted. The thing is that none of those receive signals, not even my monitor. Nothing. My friends helped me, we took out and replaced the bios chip battery looking thing (sorry i dont know names of everything) and put it back after a bunch of startups and turn offs but still nothing happened, we changed the graphics card to the old one and did everything but still nothing is happening.

What happened:

I cane back and got into something called discord, if you know it, (its a kind of group skype thing, look it up) but then my discord crashed. After a while, i decided to restart my PC but when getting to the point at wich i needed to enter my password on Windows 10, instead, i got a blue screen. It restarted by itself after like usual but gave me an other blue screen. Knowing this would go on forever, i forced it to turn off and turn it on after but then nothing. Sothing pwered up. After trying a bunch of thing and talked to my friends, the computer wouldn't even turn off, so i unpluged it and repluged it then it got back its weird behaviour but actually could turn off again. I unplugged everything did the procedure to take out and put back the bios chip battery thing for it to do something but it hadnt change a thing. Every thing is well pluged in and not everheating but my friend's last idea is for me to go and get thermal paste and put some new in... dell techsupport didnt have anything for me.

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my Alienware x51's CPU. I currently have an i3-2120 @3.30 GHz. I have 4 GB of installed RAM. 64 bit. I'm looking at the i5-2320 or i5-3450. Will these make any improvements if I am looking at games like battlefield 1? Also, are there anything else I should upgrade? Thanks!

Clean Installation of Windows OS help required

Hi all, (My PC was purchased in August 2015 Dell OEM with Windows 8.1 preinstalled). Ive seen the link listed under my Service Tag where there is the option to download a Windows 8.1 ISO recovery image. Ive also read that you can obtain the ISO from Microsoft. Is that ISO the same as the one  under my service tag on the Dell Support site? Which is the best one to get?

I will be installing from a USB flash drive and the instructions to create the bootable USB installation media on the Dell Support site are straight forward and easy to follow using Diskpart. Then simply Mount the image and copy all files over onto the USB flash drive. With this method am I going to have to mess around in the BIOS disabling Secure Boot etc when I insert the USB to reinstall or after tapping F12 will the USB stick be listed?  A technician took control of my PC a few months ago to do a clean install because my factory  image was corrupted. I don't know if he typed something else as well but he used Diskpart. I don't remember him disabling Secure Boot at all but Im not 100% sure what he typed in Diskpart.

Ive read a little about installing from the Windows 8.1 ISO. With UEFI boot mode I know the USB has to be formatted in FAT32 because NTFS wont work {the support site method abovedoes that).

Ive seen Windows Media Creation Tool..but Ive read that it uses NTFS so there are boot problems. Ive also seen people talking about using something called Rufus. I just want the easiest method..so confusing.

If the Dell method above works without having to Disable Secure Boot then I'll do it that way. I just don't want to have to change Secure Boot etc in BIOS

I bought a Windows 7 Pro on Ebay 2 years ago. Miccrosoft says the key is locked

Microsoft told me I have to call Dell to activate the key.   I don't understand that, but I called 12-27-16 and the automated phone transfered me to technical support which rang for 5 min then hung up.  If your not working then turn off the automated computer.  Anybody have this key problem of it being locked and got it unlocked?

I just ordered a Dell OptiPlex 780 from eBay (I probably got a lemon or a chopped and screwed computer) and I want to order a graphics card to put in it when it gets here. What GPU would be best to put in it? Money really isn't a problem.

I am trying to upgrade the hard drives in my desktop.    It was Windows 7 when I purchased it, and I have upgraded to Windows 10.  It is running Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and the drives are in RAID 1 configuration.

I am following instructions on Intel website to replace the drives.  Part of the process involves starting the Rapid Storage software in Windows.

The problem I am having is that when I try to start the software in Windows I get an error message that says the software is already running and cannot be started again.

any ideas?

Monitor keeps turning off and on repeatedly

So i bought a dell monitor and it worked for 7 months but one day it just started turning off and on. It just randomly turned off and then back on instantly and after that it did it repeatedly. I plugged it in other computers and with different display cables but it still did it. The monitor works for 20 minutes and after that it starts turning off and on. I got the same model new monitor from dell warranty but the problem did not stop, it kept going. I plugged it in amd and nvidia graphics cards, with vga and hdmi cables, to a laptop and to a desktop computer. I plugged in a different dell monitor to my computer and it had no problems and i plugged in a benq monitor and still no issues, but as soon as i plug my dell se2416h monitor to my computer it started turning off and on after 20 minutes. I even tried uninstalling graphics card drivers and different power cables and nothing works. I have windows 10 and i hope i will get some help, because i'm losing my mind

Best regards,

Tom

Bois version 3.2.3 on this 3650 i5 6400 has no option to turn turbo boost on or off. It came with win10 and now is running win7 64. If I am not mistaken this fact should have nothing to do with the option missing so any ideas?

NIC card failing

$

I am running a Dell XPS8700 with Windows 10 Pro & Office 365. When I purchased this machine the OS was windows 7 Pro. It ran for over a year with no problems to speak of.

I went through the trauma of upgrading to Windows 10 Pro and Office 365 in early June 1016. About a week after upgrading to Windows 10 Pro and Office 365 I could not access my network and hence the internet. After a couple of days of this I learned how to reset the nic card with the cmd prompt “netsh winsock reset”. This solved the problem, temporarily at least.

As it turned out about every couple of weeks since then the nic card has failed, but resetting it fixed it for another couple of weeks. This went on until three days ago when I had to go through resetting the nic card at least once a day.

Back when the problem first started happening I uploaded the latest firmware.

Now when I reset the nic card, it dies again within 30 minutes.

This seems to be a hardware problem or a firmware problem.

Where can I get the latest firmware for the nic card, and how do I know if it is installed properly?

Where is the nic card in my machine?

Where do I get another nic card?

Thank you,

Bob

Optiplex 980 Unknown Device on XP Professional

I have Windows XP Professional installed on a Optiplex 980, all drivers are OK with the exception of one ""Unknown Device".

The Device ID shows "ACPI\SMO1200\4&4EC69E9&0", and exhaustive search on the DELL Support website - and Google in general - just got me to dead ends.

I will appreciate if I can get some indication on getting the device driver for this device.

Type of graphic card inside Dell XPS 8910 Special Edition

I had been transferring around 4 times trying to find the answer why my graphic card which I ordered a long with my Dell XPS 8910 Special Edition:

NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X Graphics Memory

There is no LABEL on the graphic card, none of the Dell preventives was able to give me an answer, they kept transferring me around and around.

I gave them an example : if you brought a SAMSUNG cell phone, your cell phone will have a SAMSUNG LOGO on it, right?

NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X Graphics Memory, does it deserve to have it owns brand name logo on it too?

Does anyone know why there is no LABEL ON IT? Since none of dell preventives or tech support weren't able to give me an answer.  Thank you

Dell T5500 and ESXi 6.0

I'm trying to set up an inexpensive home lab for learning ESXi. I've tried installing it on all the hardware I have available to me, and the only thing that it would install cleanly to was an old Dell Inspiron 570. However, that machine is pretty limited for a VM server. It has a triple core processor and maxes out at 8GB of RAM (16GB unofficially.) On eBay, I've noticed that prices on Dell Precision T5500s are pretty low. Despite their age, they can have up to 12 cores, 2 CPUs and 72GB (maybe 144GB) of RAM. However, I'm not sure if ESXi will install on them properly, and I'm finding conflicting reports in Google. Has anyone here successfully installed ESXi 6.0 on a T5500 (or maybe a T3500 or T7500?)
