Hello

I have an XPS8900 with a GTX 960 2gb card. I would like to replace it with a better card. I saw in some of the forums that a GTX 1060 is a good option. If this is the case, could someone let me know wich specific GTX1060 to buy? and if the PSU will suppor it? (or probably I need an updated PSU?)

Any suggestion for othe card that could fit better?

Thanks

Cannot get my Dell Optiplex 760 repaired

The motherboard in my Dell Optiplex 760 needs replacing.  There is no fault with any other component.Dell UK will not help me because apparently my computer is a non-retail model (I bought it from eBay around 15 months ago).

There are so many Dell repair agents here in London but ALL of them only offer their service for Dell laptops.

Other repair facilities appear reluctant to take a Dell computer apart, supposedly because Dell computers are "unlike" other computers.

There are two options I would willingly consider.

1. Have the motherboard in my existing computer replaced

2. Find someone to remove the Hard Drive, copy a small amount of the data on the Drive (specifically the four folders - Documents/Pictures/Music/Videos) onto a USB stick allowing me to then dump my Dell Optiplex 760 as a bad experience and invest in another make of co9mputer.

What I need is the address of any repair outlet in Greater London that can perform either of the two.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.

New Dell XPS Tower Question

I have been buying Dell XPS computers for the past 15 years (I have 6) and I don't understand the new XPS tower.

Why does the Dell XPS 8910 have a laptop optical drive instead of the standard 5.25 desktop optical drive? I always thought of the Dell XPS as the top of the line consumer computer, but laptop optical drives are less reliable and have poor read/burn quality compared to desktop optical drives.

Did Dell really remove the front 5.25 bays from the tower? Why would they do this on the XPS tower?  I need the front bays to install two 5.25 optical drives.

I see the XPS 8900 has the standard drive and bays, but is that model discontinued? Are there other Dells that have the front 5.25 bays? It appears Dell also removed the bays from the new Inspiron desktop line.

I recently got the Inspiron 3650 desktop, and I'm thinking about upgrading it. After some research, I found this thread.

I want to build a setup where the PSU is outside of the case. This is the first time I'm doing this kind of stuff, so I wanted to make sure what i'm doing is right.

All I need is

EVGA supernova 550 G2

GTX 750 Ti

Dell 24-Pin to 8-Pin adapter

Is this correct?

XPS 8900 Desktop PCIe shut down issue

I am trying to add 2 small PCIe cards to the XPS 8900 running WIndows 10.  One is for IEEE1394 Firewire support the other for additional USB ports because the front paneI for the Firewire also has USB ports, so might as well use them.

My issue is that when I install these 2 PCIe cards and plug a power cable between one of the spare SATA cables & the PCIe cards every time I try to Shut Down in Windows 10 the system Restarts instead !!

VERY irritating!!  In nearly 50 years playing with computers I've come across a great many that refuse to start when you want them to but not very many that refuse to shut down !!

(I have checked in Device Manager and none of the devices are set to wake the computer)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Thanks

Replacement fans for Dell Inspiron 3847 Desktop

$

Hi Everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop purchased January 2015,

It used to run really quietly, but recently it's sounding louder during operation,

I've had the side panel off a number of times, but couldn't pin point what exactly was responsible, but once the side panel is replaced, and the PC is placed back in it's usual location, the sound is there and it sounds like one of the fans,

It had been suggested to me, to place the PC on a softer surface, as it could be just down to resonating. I've stood it directly on my floor in my office, but the sound is still there, a varied hummmmmmm sound which on further listening, seems to be the chassis fan,

My question is, where can i purchase a new replacement chassis fan (the one on the back)?, also , if it turns out to be the CPU fan, can I replace just the fan without disturbing the heatsink, thermal paste and processor?,

I also need advice where I can purchase a replacement CPU fan?, it's an Intel core i5 4460, 4th Gen,

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank You,

Mr Anthony

HELP!!! New Inspiron 3650 Setting Up Problem ' Display Connected To A Disabled Video Connector'

I am looking for some assistance please! I have this week had a new Inspiron 3650 delivered. I also bought the S2415H monitor which I understood to be a HD receiver as it came with a HDMI cable. I am setting the new system up but have a message saying that it is connected to a disabled video connector and advises me to disconnect the display cable and connect it to the add-in graphic card. I may have misunderstood what I was buying as I am no means an expert but I have simply connected the monitor to the desktop with the supplied HDMI cable and have got this message. It looks from the invoice that it has a NVIDIA(R) GeForce 730 2GB GDDR3 if that means anything. I just want to get the thing set up and working! Am I wrong to assume that the monitor should work with the HDMI cable? Any advice would be very much appreciated Thank you

T3500 Memory Integrity Test fail after CPU upgrade

$

Hi,

I recent got a used T3500 workstation - it has 12GB RAM (6 x 2gb) and a W3503 Xeon. The latest bios A17 was already installed. I upgraded to windows 10 pro and all appeared to be working well.

I bought a x5677 cpu and installed as an upgrade - the system already had the U016F heatsink, which I cleaned and applied new thermal paste to. On the first boot everything seemed OK - cpu recognised in bios and windows. But then windows crashed and on reboot I got 2000-0123 on the diagnostics and a memory integrity fail. All other tests passed.

The problem was reported for DIMM 6, but on later reboots it happened with DIMM 5. I reseated all sticks, cleaning slots with an air duster. The systems seems stable with 3 x 2gb, but is always having issues with all slots used. I have swapped sticks around several times, so it seems not to be a problem with the individual memory modules.

I noted the CMOS battery was reporting a low voltage, so have installed a new one.

After each crash I can usually get windows to boot again, and then it crashes after a few minutes.

Could there be an issue between the x5677 and the RAM, or is it more likely that I have clumsily fried the motherboard/DIMM slot whilst changing the CPU? as far as I can see the T3500 should support the x5677.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Ross

Dell XPS 2720 Keyboard, Mouse and Touchscreen Not Working

Hi all,

I have a dell XPS2720 and so here is what happened.

I installed PS Now app in my PC and i wanted to get my wireless controller to work so I downloaded and installed SCP driver installer. I ran it but then the computer stopped responding so I decided to do a hard reset.  I held the power button to restart then once the computer and windows started, i am unable to do anything anymore since I am stuck in the home screen.  This is the screen wherein when you press any key or click the mouse, the system prompts you to log in your password to unlock the screen.

My mouse, keyboard and touchscreen are all not responsive.  To isolate the issue, i tried my unifying receiver on another PC and it is working.  I am thinking my drivers perhaps got messed up.

Can you help me?  What can i do given that i can't even log back in to the system.

Autodetect is not working on my Dell OptiPlex 9010

Hi there,

I installed autodetect on my Optiplex 9010. When I tried to use autodetect to find out drivers, it came out

Driver detection not available
Please try again later or use the Find it Myself tab to find drivers by Service Tag or see a list of drivers available for your product.

When I use autodetect to detect product, it can find out a correct Service Tag.

However, it came out another error

There’s no match for that Service Tag or Express Service code. Retype the code or browse for your product by selecting the "View products" option. Allow 48 hours for new devices to register on our site.

Is there anyone can help me?

Cheers,

Eric

XPS420 UBS Hardware/Driver failure

Hello my Friends,

I am here searching for some help in the most strange bug i have ever seen!

I have a Desktop XPS420. I know, is a old desktop but it works perfectly and quite fast!

Despite of non official drivers, i was using windows 10 10.586 normally on it, not even a bug! So i was trying to update do windows 10 anniversary (14.393) but i was getting some errors because of an old Microsoft office 2010 installed.

Then i used the windows 10 restore option to get it "clean" so a update shouldn't be a problem. Everything ran well, no errors, nothing. But after the restore is done, i just dont have any USB entrance working! All my USB ports are literally, offline. Doesn't even have power!

My first though was that it burned somehow, but i realized that in BIOS setup and any other "pre-boot" screen, everything works perfectly, all usb ports, etc.

So, i think that this weird situation is caused by drivers issues. Then I ask to expertises, how can I solve it? Does anyone know a driver version compatible with windows 10?

obs : I am really fu***. Since the UBS doesn't work, how do I control my desktop when there is only USB entrance for keyboard and mouse? LOL

Need some help with Dell 8700 XPS i7-4790 - won't turbo boost

I currently own a Dell 8700 XPS.  I am running Windows 7 Home premium.  It has an i7-4790 and it won't turbo boost.  I have checked the settings to make sure it is enabled.  When I run AIDA64 Extreme, it ramps up to 3.59 but won't push past that.  The temperatures are all good, I believe the highest it gets is 72 degrees C on one core with and average of 68 degrees C for the the processor.  I only run the test for 10 minutes.  I recently updated the bios from the Dell Support page and it is running version A11.

I also downloaded and ran Intel's processor diagnostic and it passed.  Dell's CPU scan didn't detect any errors either.

Any suggestions?
