Inspriron7459 shutting down intermittently

This computer, less than a month old, switches off at irregular intervals sometimes once a day , and occasionally several times a day.  It can only be restarted after the power plug is removed and then reinserted into the socket at the back of the computer.

The last couple of times I noticed that the power button had changed from the normal while light illumination to a steady amber light.

Obviously there is some kind of fault.  Any ideas as to what it may be?

My GPU and CPU overheat way to easily. I am more worried about my gpu. I can fix the cpu. My guess at idle is 50 Celsius  when playing a simple game it hits 86 C. Mine overheats way too easily I can't even play a pixel game. I would just like some assistance on how to fix the drivers. BTW I have a Nvidia 760 Ti OEM. Thank you!

studio 540 won't power up

I lost power to my house and now the desktop studio 540 won't power up. No lights, no sounds, no fans.

I tried a different power cord and socket and still no power up.

I removed the cover and checked all cables and all were connected.

Then I noticed that when I pushed the power button the fans would spin some but not much.

I had to push the power button about 10-15 times until the unit finally powered up.

Now any time I lose power I have to take the cover off and manually spin the fans and push the power button until the desktop completely powers up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I'm having trouble starting my Dell XPS 8500.  The green PSU light turns on, but when I press the power on button, blinks in white and turns off. Then blinks in white again and turns off and continues doing that.

Also it sounds like something is trying to start inside.

I attached a simple video of its behavior.

Thanks a lot!

Will an I7 CPU fit in a 9020 with an I5 in it now? How much will that help performance?

Is there a special type or model number needed or are off the shelf CPUs all the same mounting?

No Display on Dell Studio D540 Desktop

I powered on my D540 and no video. I checked the power supply and it has a green light on. The front power button is yellow and not green. The hard drive spins up when power is applied. The USB keyboard and mouse do not seem to get power (no LEDs are lit).

I can't get into the BIOS or Windows boot menu as the screen does not work. I have an add in video card, so I removed it and plugged the monitor into the VGA on the mother board. No joy. The monitor continues to say there is no video signal from the computer in all options. Double checked the monitor and it works on another computer.

Any suggestions? TIA.

Dell Dimension memory issue

Hello, I have a Dell Dimension B110 which had been working fine, until I set it out for a while. I have recently hooked it back up and got a 1-3-2 pattern with the beeps. And the diagnostic lights on the back are D,C,B are yellow, and A is green. I read on the Dell website that it is a memory not being detected issue. I tried reseating the memory and moving them around. I also tried different RAM that I know works, and same thing. I am also getting no video output. I am wondering if it is a problem with the memory sockets or the whole Motherboard itself.

Can anyone help me? I am hoping not to buy anything, but if I have to, I will.

Thanks,

-Alex (ajwolfe)

Easel stand is awful. Alternatives?

I have a dell inspiron 24 3000 series. It is a great computer but I absolutely hate that it has the easel stand. If I want to angle down the webcam I have to compromise the stability of the computer by adjusting the easel.

Is it possible to buy a different stand to attach to the back of it to make it more like the iMac? It would also be a good way to save some space on my desk.

thanks!

Studio XPS 9100 Won't turn on

I purchased a brand new Dell XPS 9100 back in 2010.  I've tried to take good care of it, regular cleanings, etc.  Over the past year I noticed problems at times with pushing down on the top power button on the top front of  my computer, it would not work, but I would continue to release and try and suddenly it would power on and boot up.  About 1 month ago I noticed a slight change in the noise of my fans (have 3).  Then all of a sudden my computer shut down (I was not looking at it).  I rebooted and things worked fine for a while (but fan sound was different) and then I noticed a message come on indicating something along the line that it was overheating and shut down (I did not have time to copy the exact message down).  I tried restarting the next day when cold, but it would not.  I was not sure if my model had a kill switch, but the only power button button I saw was a small black button on the back top right corner with a green light above it.  I pushed this on and noticed that my CPU fan was not working.  I went and purchased a new fan, put it together, removed the old thermal membrane and applied a new one and then reconnected my fan to my board.  I then pushed the top power button and the power came on for about 5 seconds then went off. I pushed it again, power started up, but then stopped after approx. 2 secs.  I tried again and nothing.  I then went back to the button on the back and power came on throughout the machine (I could hear it, saw a light on the top power button come on as well as the Dell logo on front) and saw that all 3 fans were turning.  But as soon as I released my finger from this button, everything went off.  At no time when I held my finger on this small black button on the back did my system boot, I only heard power.  What's wrong or what do I have to do to correct things.

My XPS 9100 Does Not Power ON

My Dell unit is approx. 5 years old and has not caused me problems.  I did notice that I had trouble occasionally trying to turn on my computer by pressing the power button, it would not always start the first time I pushed it.  Approx. a month ago I noticed a change in my fans sound.  I am not a computer person, but did think I may be starting to have a fan problem.  Then a few days ago, my computer all of a sudden stopped.  I started it back up and it worked for about 10 minutes then went off, and I sort of caught a message on the screen, but was unprepared to copy it.  I had to reboot this computer again and did so.  It stayed on for about 3 minutes and a message came on (which I could not write down) but indicated something about overheating.  I decided not to start it up, gave it the next day, tried to start it, but nothing happened.

I then pushed the small black button on the back, the LED was green and stayed green until I took my finger off.  I noticed my CPU fan was not turning.

I purchased a new fan, put it back together and changed the thermal grease.  I made sure the connections were in place and pushed the top start button.  The computer started up and ran for about 5 seconds, then quit.  I tried this again, but it only lasted for about 2 seconds.  The next time, nothing.

I pushed the black diagnosis button on back, LED stayed green for as long as I held my finger on button, also all fans were turning and sounding properly.  I noted that the power button on top lights up and Dell logo lights up when diagnosis button is pushed.

Now I have nothing...... computer does not turn on.

Inspiron Computer - less than 2 months old and not working

$

I have an Inspiron 3650 that was bought on the 23rd February 2016 (it arrived very promptly a day later and I set it up on the 25th). I also bought the speakers with it (the Dell AC411 Wireless Speaker System). The software that came installed on the machine was Cyberlink PowerDVD v12, and the operating system is Windows 10.

I have several problems:

The first:

From the moment I switched it on, I've had problems with the DVD drive. If I switched a DVD, I would have to shut down the machine and switch it back on for it to recognise the new disc. Not even a reboot would work, it had to be a full shut down.

Today, the DVD has randomly stopped reading the disc at all, and Cyberlink won't stay open for more than a few seconds, if I can open it at all. I do not know what has suddenly kicked this off, but I tried downloading other video player software (such as VLC) and none of them can read the disc. I did eventually manage to keep Cyberlink open just long enough for it to claim there was something open that needs to be closed, but nothing stayed visible long enough for me to read what it was - so I don't know what that message said. The only way I got that message at all was by clicking on Computer, going into the DVD drive and clicking on one of the video files directly to try and play it. It didn't play, I got the message instead, didn't have time to read it, and cannot replicate the scenario to try and read it again.

My computer is two months old, and I now have a completely unusable DVD drive and software.

The second:

Two weeks ago, and less than six weeks after purchasing the computer, my speakers randomly stopped working. I cannot switch them on. I am now using my old speakers from my old machine.

The third:

The first thing I did upon switching on my machine was create a back-up (to a portable hard drive). Given the DVD problems I'm having today, I decided to try a system restore. Except the computer is claiming that I've made no back up. This is despite the portable drive being connected to my computer in the same port it was in when I created the back-up two months ago. I therefore cannot create a system restore. My computer is only offering me the opportunity to start creating a back-up from scratch right now, which I don't want to do because I'm assuming that'll back up whatever problem exists with my DVD player - and overwrite the back-up that does exist which I can't access for some reason.

I can't get in touch with Dell Tech support to resolve any of these issues, so I'm trying these forums in the hope someone can help me - either figure out what's wrong, or tell me how to get Dell to take back this machine and find out what's wrong with it.

Inspiron one 2020 processor upgrade

Hey, just wanted to know what the most powerful, compatible processors are for this system (Inspiron one 2020, LGA 1155 socket, System board: 0MTFWP, BIOS A07) I couldn't find any documentation on the processors that are compatible with this version of the bios. Would an I5 or an I7 work with it?

Optiplex 5040

I am trying to get an Optiplex 5040 build from a USB boot flash drive, but it just won't even get to the task sequence (SCCM 2007). It's OK if I boot from a CD (but after a few tries!).

The error I get, after "initializing hardware devices" message is:
‘Unable to read task sequence configuration disk. For more information, please contact your system administrator or helpdesk operator.’

‘Unable to read task sequence configuration disk.

- See more at: faqshop.com/.../cm07osd-unable-to-read-task-sequence-configuration-disk

‘Unable to read task sequence configuration disk.

- See more at: faqshop.com/.../cm07osd-unable-to-read-task-sequence-configuration-disk

I am making sure I use the USB 2 ports and not the USB 3 ones. I even disabled the USB 3 ones in the bios, just in case, but the result is the same. The smsts.log file, open with Trace32.exe, highlights these three errors:

"Failed to find the current TS configuration path"  (if I F8 during the process, I can't even get an ip address).

"Failed to find the configuration path.
The system cannot find the path specified. (Error: 80070003; Source: Windows)    TSBootShell    25/04/2016 10:44:22    864 (0x0360)"

The USB Flash drive is set as removable (diskpart).

The Optiplex network drivers were added to the wim file.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

XPS 8700 power button not working

$

I have an XPS 8700.  It has been stored for about 14 months without use.  Tried to start it up today and there is no light behind the power button and pressing the button has no effect.  If I hold down the diagnostic power button on the back the PC boots up as normal and and allows me to login and use the computer without issue - BUT only provided I keep the diagnostic button pressed.  The top power button lights up with a constant white light.

When I let the diagnostic button go the PC shuts down immediately.

I've tried different power cables and power sockets.  I've replaced the CMOS 3v battery with a new one.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is it just a faulty power button module (F7M7N) that needs replacing?

OptiPlex 3040 - USB not found when doing System Recovery

$

I am not able to find the usb drive when using the system restore disk. If the system boots up it will find the usb just find and fill exists in the  root WindowsImageBackup directory on the usb. The system are brand new and 3040 model with windows 7  64 bit. It seems OptiPlex 3020 worked just fine and found the image location but all my 3040 do not find them. I talk with Dell support for 4 hours and they just though it was a bad motherboard...I said I did not think so since all of the pc I have will not find the usb during system restore.

I check the BIOS also legacy is on and rom is on. Boot order hard drive, usb. cd/dvd . I hit f12 at start up and select cd/dvd to boot where my recovery disc is. and opens fine but never sees the usb drive to find my image.

Could I load usb driver from C: drive? If so which one?

Thanks in advance!
