I have a Dell optiplex 740 AMD Athlon Dual core 4850C 2.5GHz 4GB 250GB windows 7 professional,I install a Dell NVidia GForce G310 512MB(Low profile)GDDR3 desktop video card.after I install it,u plug my monitor into the mother board and not into the graphic port, turn on my PC,then I got a reading saying Graphic card detected.Turn my PC off, connect  my monitor plug into my graphic card port and turn on my PC.so I didn't have the right size to my monitor and the graphic card port,so I buy a cheeper cable plug for my monitor that connected to the cable plug that connects to the graphic card.I turn it on and still saying no input or connection on my monitor.so do I need to replace my monitor or am I doing something wrong?

XPS 8930 - Video Card Help Needed

0

I found a great deal on the new XPS 8930 at my local Costco.  It came with the new i7-8700 processor, 16gb RAM and an NVidia GTX 1050ti video card.  I had a fairly new GTX 1070 video card that I thought would be a great upgrade for the new PC.  However, after I installed it, the PC would not boot up with the 1070 - lights came on, the fans on the 1070 turned, but the keyboard lights wouldn't come on and the monitor stayed black.  In trying to get it to work I tried the following:

  • Put the 1050ti back in and it booted up immediately.
  • Checked for and found a new Bios - 1.0.2 - I updated the Bios and tried again - the 1070 still didn't work
  • Checked for and installed the latest NVidia drivers - installed the 1070 and it still didn't boot up
  • Put the 1070 back into my XPS 8910 and it booted up just fine - the 1070 wasn't bad.  Also checked for a bios update for the 1070 - did not find one
  • Installed a fairly new Corsair RM650 power supply in the 8930 thinking that the 460 W OEM PS wasn't powerful enough to drive the 1070 - installed the 1070 and once again, it would not boot
  • Ran MS Update and let it install updates to bring it up to the latest of everything - still wouldn't boot
  • Called the Dell Warranty Support and after bouncing between 3 different techs, they got me to a great one who spent over an hour having me try some of the same things I had already tried, also clearing the CMOS, cleaning up drivers, it still didn't work.  We both agreed that it appears that nothing is wrong with the computer, and replacing the system board, or any other hardware will most likely resolve this issue

What else should I try?  I don't want to spend another $400 on another video card.  I notice that the new 8930's ship with 1070's and 1080's, so I'm assuming that any 1070 should work.

My other question - is this a bios issue?  I remember a couple of years back when with prior XPS desktops the GTX 970 and other cards wouldn't work until they came up with a bios update that fixed it.  Could this be my problem?

Alienware X51 R3 BSOD with message "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR"

HI Guys. I could really use some help.

I have an X51 r3 that has been hitting me with a lot of BSOD with the message WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. I have tried everything but no results so far.

I have updated all the drivers needed, I have tested and reseated all the hardware, I tried swapping parts for others to test and it still gives me bsod.

I performed a memtest for around 8 passes and I always get the green sign of approval. I have stress tested the GPU and the CPU and they don’t fail. The HDD has also been checked. I also tried using the windows verifier tools for drivers but never get dmp files because they don’t show up on the system32 folder.

Funny thing is that this only happens while using Windows environment (normal boot) but I have used Ubuntu and even Windows on safemode and I never have an issue. Has anybody else encountered this?

While messing with Windows 8.1, using the troubleshooter, it mentioned something about the “mcupdate_genuineintel.dll”. I replaced it with a working one but same thing.

Dell XPX 8300 - Upgrade / Transplant (Completed)

Successfully transplanted a Dell XPS 8300 to a Corsair Spec-02 case w/upgrades.  Mind you, that many will ask why didn't you invest in a new PC?  Well, in a way in this build I did keep the future in mind and there is sentimental value to Sandy Bridge....

With the upgraded GPU, PSU, CPU Cooler, SSD, and case I am ready for a Z270 mobo, DDR4 ram, and i7-7700k processor when I can find a good deal in the future. [H]

I can't complain with consistent 120-144 FPS when playing games.

I have an XPS8700 and am waiting for the Fall Creators Update (really just the Onedrive files on demand feature).  It is not offered as an automatic update for me yet so I'm wondering if anyone has installed it manually and if so how is it working?

Thank You

Replacing HDD with SSD in Vostro 3650 Desktop PC

I'm in the process of replacing the main drive (HDD) in my Vostro 3650 with an SSD and I've run into a slight problem which hopefully someone can help with.

I bought a Samsung 850 SSD and have used the Samsung software to clone the main drive but I'm experiencing problems when booting. If the HDD is in place the system boots OK (albeit somewhat slowly). If I replace the HDD with the cloned SSD the system doesn't boot and I get the following displayed.

It looks like it's not seeing the drive and falling back on booting via PXE on the NIC. The thing is if I press F12 when booting I get the following.

I can scroll down through the UEFI options and select the HDD1 - Windows Boot Manager(Samsung SSD 850 Evo 250GB) option and it then boots of the SSD no problem and the system runs vey nicely after that but that's not really a useful solution.

What I want to know is why has the replacement SSD been added at the end as an additional boot option instead of just being treated as a bootable drive and being handled by the first WIndow Boot Manager option?

I don't see any way to change the order of these boot options either - the first three seem to be set in stone and can only be Enabled/Disabled not re-ordered and when on the page that lets you do this, the new fourth option isn't present. Disabling the first three options doesn't help either - the system only seems to try the first three option and then gives up.

Any assistance with this issue would be most grateful.

Does it matter which bay I use

I have an XPS 8920 computer with a 512 GB SSD and a 2 TB HDD. I wish to add another HDD. When I opened my computer I expected to find the HDD in the primary slot with both secondary drive cages empty. Instead I found the HDD in one of the two secondary slots with the primary and other secondary cages open. Does it make any difference which slot I use for the new drive? BTW, the new HDD is a 6tb WD black and I have a Blu-ray drive.

Thanks in advance,

Marc

Hi

Pc has worked fine for years.

This morning it froze so had to force a reboot as could not get into task manager.

Just got the dell logo...........

So disconnected everything and held power button for 20 seconds.  Turned it back on. F2 and F12 does nothing.

Dell logo and "preparing automatic repair" ran for 20 or 30 mins.

Nothing happened. So tried to restart with the old windows 8 cd.

Got into a test screen and it said "no hard drive detected"

Is it dead forever?

Thanks

BIOS Manual Needed

Hello.

How can I see who the manufacturer is of the BIOS on a case by case basis? Generally speaking, it would be nice to see the manual to help explain what the options are and how to proceed.

Specifically, regarding the Dell Precision 7510, I am in the BIOS under General > Boot Sequence and the options on the right hand pane change when you select Legacy vs UEFI. And then, in Legacy there is a 'View' button. and this presents 3 more fields. It's be nice to know what drives these fields etc.

Conversely, in the UEFI mode of BIOS, there is an 'Add Boot Option', but it errors and says 'File System Not Found'.

Yet on a Latitude 5580, the BIOS shows under Boot Sequence options of 'Windows Boot Manager' and below that the options of Legacy or UEFI.

Dell Security Tools update trashes Windows 10

This is a public bug report.

Dell Precision 3620 with Windows 10 version 1703 build 15063 here. At some point after initially booting up, the Dell software updater prompted me to update Dell Data Protection| Security Tools (to version 1.12.021), and after doing so, it had me reboot. This action appeared to have trashed Windows forcing me to have to reset the PC and erase the C drive.

However, after going through the reset process twice, I ran the update a third time, but this time, Dell tech support had me turn off the secure boot in the BIOS and that magically allowed the bootup to proceed and Windows was, in fact, fine. (Who would have thought to do that?!) Needless to say, I removed the Dell Security software and turned the secure boot back on and all is well. Does anyone even know what this software does?

The tech support manager is reporting to me that so far, Dell engineering is refusing to fix this.

Inspiron 3847 replacement PSU

Is there a factory replacement for the PSU for the Inspiron 3847 that is a higher wattage than the 300W that comes installed?

I attempted to replace the PSU with a 400W unit out of another Dell and all went well until it was time to connect the harddrive cables.  The drive is mounted cross ways in the case and the replacement PSU power cables end up being to high to install the case cover.

XPS 8920, CPU fan speed continuous ramping up and down

We are replacing older XPS 8700's and i thought I would try this XPS 8920.

The CPU fan speed continuous ramping up and down over very small CPU temperature changes is driving me nuts. I cant find temperature to speed tweak for this unit. 3rd party fan speed controllers all report its only capable of 0, 800, and 4500 RPM (only 3 static values).

Is there a hidden way to control this excessive changes in fan speed and Noise? If not this is a show stopper?

P.S. I am aware the i7-7700 is a stupid CPU with temp spikes but this is not about that. Its about controlling your fans more sensibly.

Please take this serious and help me.

Optiplex 780 has an inconsistent problem

I am a student at an IT networking school.  Each of got a PC to work with and with my luck I got the problem one.  At the beginning of the year it was working fine when all of the sudden it began to act up.  The computer was very slow to get past the BIOS startup screen.  I checked the system configuration and eventually removed the CMOS battery and fixed the problem.  After that it worked for a while.  Then it got caught in a startup loop.  Sometimes I would get past the BIOS screen and sometimes it would bring me to a blue troubleshooting screen before restarting a few seconds later.  Eventually I reinstalled Windows Server 2012 RS.  When I first loaded it up it gave me a blue screen with a dump file listed.  I exited out and searched around but wasn't able to find much.  The next time I started up it gave me an amber power light with blinking 1 and 2 indicators.  The strange thing is it does not always do this.  Some times it starts up and works fine but some times I get the amber light and blinking indicators.  I've looked around but I haven't really found anything.  I think it is likely a loose connection since it only gives the error some of the time.  I have no idea what is wrong and I could really use some help.

XPS 8500 - Attach sub-woofer from old Dell speakers

My speakers stopped working and I ordered new AX210 speakers.  I saw the sub-woofer cable was wired to the old speakers.  Is there a way to use the sub-woofer?

Is splicing a good idea?  Can the subwoofer removed from the old speakers and re-wired into the new speakers?
