Inspiron 3847 won't wake with Microsoft Bluetooth Arc Touch Mouse and Surface Keyboard

Over the weekend, I purchased a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and keyboard for my Inspiron 3847 PC, which is running Windows 10. While they both work great (and the keyboard has an amazing feel, BTW), I can't get either to wake the computer from sleep.

I've looked at solutions on the web and found nothing yet. Does anyone have any idea how to wake up a PC using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

XPS 8900 upgrade roadblock

Hi,

I need some help finalizing my upgrade plan.  I would think this type of upgrade is common and am hoping that some folks here have already been down that road and are willing to give me some direction.

Here's what I have.....
A new XPS x8900-3756 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed on a 2TB HDD.  It also has a secondary 32GB SSD installed in another drive bay.  FWIW I'll try to include a screenshot of the config in Disk Management.

Here's what I plan to do......

1 - Install a new Samsung EVO 250GB SSD drive in the M.2 slot on the motherboard

2 - Clone Windows from the HDD to the new Samsung SSD M.2 using Acronis 2017

3 - Leave the 2TB HDD and the 32GB SSD connected and in their existing drive bays

4 - Reformat the 2TB HDD and partition it with 6 logical drives, leaving the 32GB SSD as-is to use as cache.

I believe I'll have no trouble with the cloning operation.  And I shouldn't have a problem reformatting & partitioning the 2TB HDD since I've done these things several times but with older systems.  Once the cloning operation is complete I plan to boot using F12 so I can confirm the cloning was successful and that Windows can boot from the SSD.  But that's just a one-time boot!

My problems begin between steps 3 and 4 when I'll need to address subsequent boots in the UEFI firmware's boot order sequence so Windows will boot straight from the SSD without needing to use F12.  This used to be easy before UEFI, but despite reading dozens of articles and posts on the subject I still cannot formulate a plan for the steps I need to take in the firmware.  I don't like going into firmware settings and taking guesses, having a plan in place ahead of time is a best practice IMO.

My questions at this time are.....

a) Once I boot with F2, what are the specific steps I need to take in the firmware to change the boot order sequence, and is there an order in which the steps should be performed?

b) Once I know the cloning was successful and the SSD will boot Windows, at what point should I reformat the 2TB HDD?  It's not clear to me if the Windows OS that remains on the 2TB HDD would create a conflict once the boot order sequence for the M.2 SSD has been set in the firmware.

Thanks in advance,
Frank

Optiplex 9010 rear fan failure message

I've got an Optiplex 9010 (small form factor case) that shows a "Rear Fan Failure" message on boot. The  rear fan appears to be the CPU fan. I've replaced the fan and verified it is working, but I still get this message on boot.

The only other fan in this machine is at the bottom front, and it is also working. Note: some other models of the Optiplex series have an additional fan under the hard drive cage that can give this same message, but this small form factor case does not have this fan.)

So, I have to assume the this message is bogus, but I cannot find any way to disable whatever causes the BIOS to display the message. I have already updated the BIOS to the latest level (A25) and I still get the message. The machine is out of warranty so I don't want to pay for support.

Anyone have any idea how to keep this message from appearing?

Save a T7600 from the graveyard! ;)

Hi ladies&gents!

I have a precision T7600 system that I recovered at the office (it was a marketing unit no one was using anymore). Point being its service tag is non-existant (pre-prod unit) so impossible to have it fixed and I haven't been able to find any helpfoul resource internally (Dell).

Problem: about a year ago I was playing with the Intel AMT parameters and the system stopped booting (no POST, nothing on screen). I can tell the system is still alive because;

- the internal led display correctly show error codes if I remove the CPU or the RAM

- the ethernet goes up

but still no way to interact with the system; the error code shown on the internal display is 06 and I haven't found a single document describing what that is.

I already tried removing coin-cell battery, jumpering the CMOS and the RTCRST jumpers but nothing (AMT parameters are stored in an internal NVRAM as far as I know so...)
Any idea? that's a nice system which can still do a lot: it would be a pity to have to throw it away :(

PS: PSU, memory and CPU are fine: tested on another system
thanks!

Alessandro

Dell Inspiron 620MT CD/DVD Drive Removal

Hi Everyone

I have a busted CD/DVD Drive that I need to replace, however I cannot find any reference to how to remove the drive.

The Dell System manual does not show my configuration of the 620MT as it shows a complete one piece Front Bezel mine is effectively 2 pieces, the bottom one has nothing behind it but the Power ON/Off above that there are three bays, all with pop open front doors, ther top one being the Optical Drive Bay.

Looking at the mounting inside the box there are just two screws that are accesable, I removed those buit no matter what I try I just cannot move the Drive itself which according to the manual should just push out  the front of the machine.

I have given up all hope of getting any help from Dell Support, hopefully someone in the forum has got the answer which I would really appreciate.

I am not a novice and have built plenty of computers in my time but this has me stumped, you would think that by now Dell would have got some better design guys.

I live in hope and look forward to someone helping me out.

Kind regards

Memory Mix and Match

I have an XPS-8910 on the way from egghead.com.  The PC has the default 16gb of RAM already installed.  Is one slot filled with a single, factory 2133mhz stick or is it (2) 8gb sticks?  Can someone provide me with the specs on the supplied memory stick?

Will there be any negative side effects be experienced if the other (2) additional 16 gb sticks I purchase are from a different vendor? ie GSkill or Kingston.

Will the new memory take a performance hit by the existence of the pre-installed 16 GB of Ram already installed?

Will this graphic card work for my computer

Hello, I have a dell inspiron 660. I am debating getting this card  its a msi gtx 1050 ti http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137055

It look like the length posted on the description say 8.46 inches. Would that fit in my computer or should I wait for a single fan version. Also, it look like it only need a 300w psu which came for this computer, but I bought a 550w psu and have yet to install it to my computer. Should I install my 550w if I buy any new card?

Thanks

Wireless Network adapter causing Alienware R3 to freeze during a restart, but not a start up.

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 on my R3 and everything is working fine. The box has a built in internet controller for wired internet, but I moved the computer to a room where there is no internet jack. I installed a wireless internet adapter and it works just fine. The problem is when you do a restart the box hangs at the set up (F2) boot options (F12) screen. After disconnecting and reconnecting the power, the box reboots fine.  Also, if you do a shutdown, then later start the computer, it boots normally.  If I disconnect the wireless adapter everything works fine. Just no internet. I have tried set up and disabling all boot devices except HDD and DVD/CD. Any ideas? Thanks.

Optiplex 780 - Running Two Displays

Greetings:

I've been attempting to set up two monitors for my business for quite some time now. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I believe I've purchased all of the correct cords, dongles, etc. However when I try to set them up, EPIC fail. CONTROL PANEL -> DISPLAY -> CHANGE DISPLAY SETTINGS. Once I'm in CHANGE DISPLAY SETTINGS, only 1 monitor shows. I've tried to hit detect and get nothing.

I found some info online which stated, "Every graphics card provides at least two outputs, with most motherboards also providing display output and cheap access to a second graphics card."

Here are my questions:

1. How many graphics cards are in the Optiplex 780?

2. Do I need to add a graphics card?

3. If so, how do I add a graphics card?

4. What am I doing WRONG?

Thank you very much for your time and assistance in this matter.

Alienware Alpha R2 Intel Wireless 3165 does not connect to 5 GHz WiFi

Hi everyone... I'm having this issue from the first time I booted up my Alienware Alpha R2 (Intel i5 GTX 960). I tried to connect it to my NETGEAR Router (before I had WNDR4000) and I could only see the 2.4 GHz (that was working properly). I thought was an old router and maybe it wasn't compatible with Intel Wireless 3165. Now I've bought a NETGEAR R7800 (AC2600) and the problem is still the same! Only 2.4 GHz is available on the list. I tried to put the iPhone 6 (connected with 5 GHz) over the Alienware in order to check the signal but it was strong (distance is 4 meters without walls). I tried to update BT & PROWireless drivers (also the Intel website ones) but nothing happened.

Do you have any idea to solve this problem?

Hello all, I have a XPS 435t/9000 desktop and up to this point I've been running a ethernet connection for my internet. Now the desktop has a PCI wifi card but I was wondering is there any way I can upgrade this to a better one to get a faster connection using wireless? I'm sure there is I'm just not sure what is compatible or not. I would really appreciate any responses.
