I was looking to improve some circulation in my XPS 8500 by replacing the case fans with the new Corsair magnetic bearing fans. But I thought I read once you couldnt replace a stock Dell case fan? Something about the mobo wont detect the sensor on the stock fan and throw no fan detect errors at boot?
Can we replace stock Dell case fans? XPS 8500
Upgrade Optiplex 330
Hi ! I recently found a Optiplex 330 and i want to upgrade it. The actual CPU is the "***" Intel Celeron 430 (1 Core @ 1.8Ghz) Yes, 1 Core..
Anyway, i need informations about the best processor i can put into this machine. I see on the manual of this computer only 1 or 2 core processors (Pentium Dual-Core, Celeron Dual Core or C2D). I need to know if i can put an decent C2Q.
I think the Q8400S is a good idea but i don't know if it works. I'm not rich, i can't buy a lot of CPUs for testing.
My BIOS is A11 (Latest) but I think DELL on this release "block" the possibility to put a Quad Core Processor inside this computer. I don't if it's true or false
Thanks for reply
PS : Sorry if my English is bad, i'm French
DELL Optiplex 9020 processor downgrade
Hello, can I downgrade my Intel Core i7 4790 to Intel Pentium g3260 in my Optiplex 9020?
Alert! Memory fan failure
When I start up my computer - it beeps and gives me this message, followed by the computers fans to get increasingly louder to a point that I can no longer use my microphone for what I need to do, what do I need to do / have repaired or replaced to resolve this problem?
adding 16G to 16G memory yields 24G: can you find missing 8G?
(Suse leap42.1 on Dell t7400, Linux linux-2v1c 4.1.34-33-default #1 SMP

I recently added 16G of Hynix memory (HYMP151F72CP4N3-Y5) to a Dell t7400 workstation that contained 16G
of memory as originally shipped (M395T5166AZ4-CE65).

Also, the Dell mboard ACPI bios sees all 32G. Memtest passes on all 8 memory modules of 4mb
each. (So reordering or reseating the memory modules won't solve this. I
tried this already.)
I'm using the last bios posted to Dell's support pages:
>dmidecode -s bios-version
A0
>dmidecode -s bios-release-date
05/23/20119
After I boot into linux, the system sees only 24G.

This machine also runs an ancient copy of Windows Vista Business. That
produces the same pattern: the bios sees all 32G but the OS only 24.
Adding the boot parameter mem=32G has no effect (because, by the point that
the boot process loads the kernel, the visible memory is already reduced).
So apparently something happened when the bios created the physical ram map.
Which causes the loss of 8G?
Adding SSD to Dell XPS-8900
Apologies if my questions are redundant to other posts in the forum, BUT, I couldn't find ones that covered my questions specifically.
I'm hoping to add a OCZ Trion 150 960GB 2.5" 7mm SATA III Internal Solid State Drive TRN150-25SA3-960G to the Dell XPS 8900 I just purchased. Currently it has a 1TB HDD but no second drive.
My questions:
- Is the SSD I intend to purchase compatible with this desktop?
- If not, why (ie, what should I look for in an alternate)? And what is a good alternative to the SSD I'm proposing.
- Does the XPS 8900 come with spare power and SATA for a second drive?
- Do I need a 3.5" mounting adapter?
Thanks in advance. Again, apologies for the simplistic questions, but I'd appreciate a response.
Inspiron 24 5000 Series - BOTH USB ports have broken pieces
I've had my Inspiron all-in-one for less than a year. Both USB ports have broken where the blue plastic piece has come out. The first one fried my external harddrive and I lost thousands of pictures.
I've been told this isn't under warranty as it was an accidental mishap that I caused. Clearly, since both have broken, it's some sort of hardware issue.
Has anyone else had this happen? I'm told my only option is to pay $265 for replace it. Are there any other options? External USB drive? I can't get anyone to talk to me other than saying I owe $265.
UPS Question for an expert
Grandson recently purchased a Windows 10 water-cooled (non-Dell) gaming machine. The PSU is an 850 Watt EVGA SuperNova G2 (AVR). I believe system is overclocked at 4.2-4.8 with 3 GPUs. The monitor is a 4k-compatible unit. Let's say 200 watts.
Fact: Your stated UPS's wattage should always be more than the maximum of tower and peripherals.Schneider, who sells APC, says you should not push UPS past 80% of its stated wattage.
From all that my takeaway is that the required UPS to safely and effectively back up this system would require a minimum of 1200 watts/2000VA.
Appreciate some clarification and suggestions.
PS Is an under-powered UPS better than no UPS at all or can it potentially cause big problems (specifically to expensive tower).
My Dell Inspiron 580s desktop won't start
My Dell Inspiron 580s was working fine till yesterday night. I had connected extra hard drive to recover files from this extra hard drive. It takes long time to recover these files. So I kept computer on whole night. This morning the computer was on, all lights and fans were working. However the keyboard and mouse lights were off. So I switched off the computer. When restarted the yellow light inside the computer all fans started. Front white light was also on. But there was amber light at start button & it beeps 4-5 times and stops and beeps again. I disconnected all the peripherals disconnected power supply then pressed on button for 1 min. Still it won't start. Please help.
My Desktop PC Issue(s)
My 'Dell OptiPlex 745' shuts down automatically and then tries to start again and again but in vain. It has started happening about three weeks ago. After one week of the problem, I took it to the shop from where I purchased it. They replaced its power supplying box that resolved the problem for hardly 1 week. Now the issue is there again. What do I do. Please help. My computer system is running on 'Windows 7'.
No downloads, no printer.
My Inspiron 530S is working well but I can not download anything from the internet and the printer does not appear in the computer. This problem started now, before everything was Ok.
Can anyone help me please, thanks.
Memory Upgrade
I have an Inspiron All-In-One 23 Model 5348, it came with 4G memory and after upgrading to Windows 10 I wanted to add memory.
I ordered an 8G module from Dell but when I install it along with the original 4G the computer won't boot. The Yellow light on the Power switch flashes.
After I removed the 4G module it boots successfully.
Is there a memory module compatibility issue or a quantity issue here?
Thanks
Studio XPS 7100 GPU Upgrade advice
I have Dell Studio XPS 7100 with the AMD Phenom II x6 1035T 2.60GHz CPU, with 8GB RAM and a HD5850 GPU. I use the PC for games amongst other things and am looking to upgrade my graphics card as it is past it . Would it be able to take a RX470?

XPS 8910 Additional HDD for backup
I've installed a second HDD for backup purposes. When I press F2 to go into setup, everything but the date and time is shaded and changes cannot be made. I noticed that the drives are shown as a RAID configuration, not AHCI. Can I safely change from RAID to AHCI? I attempted to make the change but the warning was scary! What other actions can I take to allow me to enable the second drive? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Inspiron 3250 Small Desktop Memory Module
I have the small Inspiron 3250 Desktop. Processor information: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz (CPU:0). Memory type: DDR3 (1600 MHz).
I want to add another 8gb memory module. I have asked Dell representative 5 times about which module to order. I have received 4 different recommendations and one "your PC can't be upgraded). I do know that my PC has two slots for memory and is only using 1 8gb module so I know it can be upgraded. I just don't know which module is best suited for my PC.
Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance
Too many Recovery Partitions on Inspiron 3650
Hello, I recently deleted and merged a partition on my PC. I had Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 on Dual-Boot and now have only Windows 10. My problem is, I have 3 Partitions labeled "Recovery" and would like to delete all but one. I know I should have 1 but not 3. I have used 1 for a factory restore image and would like to keep that. How do I know which to delete and then merge into my 1 C:/ drive? I don't want to cause any problems with my PC and it's recovery options. I am attaching a picture. Please respond with instructions. Thanks
Enabled TPM and HAV (all Virtualization) on Latitude E6420 -> but Windows 7 HAV detection reports not enabled
Hi
Win 7 HAV Detection tool indicated my Latitude does not have Virtualization enabled
I went to BIOS settings and changed them to enabled for all 3 Virtualization options, as well as for TPM
(One of the Virtualization settings indicated TPM must be enabled)
I then selected TPM activate and rebooted the machine
However, HAV Tool still says 'Not enabled'
Any ideas?
Dell 8900, Gaming Computer, Dell Alienware Aurora
Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.
Dell site not listing any drivers for OptiPlex 790 (73TQ7V1) and 960 (461BZK1)
I have an unrecognized PCI serial, I know which chipset drivers I need to fix it, but when I go to the drivers page there is nothing there.
I've tried using the service tag, navigating to the model, using auto-detect and every other possible route to navigate the site and switching OS's and tried no multiple computers. But no matter how I go there it says "Your device does not have or require any updates."
Help.
