Dell Inspiron One 2020 Motherboard Replacement

I'm trying to replace the motherboard in my AIO, Dell Inspiron One 2020. Since I've never done anything like this before, I'm following the User Manual exactly. I just ran into my first problem. The manual simply says "Disconnect all the cables from their connectors on the system board.' Well, that's not been as easy for me as it sounds. I'm hoping someone with prior experience will reply with a tip, trick or suggestion. My problem is I can't get the cables out of the connectors on the motherboard. With the exception of the hard drive and optical drive cables, there's not much to get hold of. I don't see any mechanical catches that need to be released. I assume I should not pull on the wires, just the male connector that is attached to the wires. I assume I should not use tools, but I'm considering the use of needle nose pliers, unless someone can offer me a better suggestion. I hope there's someone out there whose done this before and can offer helpful suggestions. Thanks.

Critical process died

Hello guys, I have an Alienware x51 and it's been working great for me for ages until I tried to start it up last week. I got a blue screen and an error cod 2000-0511 and a message saying critical process has died. So I had a quick look online and someone suggested doing "eSPA" and seeing what devices fail. After doing this I've found that my Sys fan is not rotating and fails. But upon inspecting my x51 it doesn't seem to have one. I did get this PC second hand but it's been working absolutely fine for a year when I got it. Anyone got any suggestions or tips on what I should do it would be really helpful. Cheers Luke.

MAXIMUM RAM FOR DELL XPS 8300

I have read that we can have a max ram at 32GB even if the max ram on the manual is 16GB. If so can I use: CT102464BD160B - Crucial 8GB DDR3L 1600 UDIMM? Why is there an L by the DDR3 and why U infront of DIIM? I want to make sure that it would be compatible with my computer and not waste money on it if it doesn't work. Thanks in advance for the response to this post.

PCIe slot not working in XPS 8500

I have a double slot AMD HD 7700 GPU. Card came with my XPS 8500 and has been working great for years.  I normally run video to the monitor via the HDMI port on this card. Couple of weeks ago I received notice of an update from AMD. During installation the screen blanked. Since it was a video-related update I thought this normal. It was late so went to bed. Next morning still no video. I tried the DVI port on the card, still no video. Finally plugged into the VGA port on the systems board so I could see what was going on - finally I had video. I've worked with AMD tech support for the last two weeks. Updated all C++ apps, Net Framework, etc., still nothing. Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers multiple times, still nothing. GPU shows as working normally in device manager. In desperation I decided to try the card in an old XPS 420 I have. To my amazement, it worked. I then took the AMD HD 2600 from the 420 and tried it in the PCIe slot on the 8500, no video. So, I now seem to be left with a non-operating PCIe slot. I've read several posts that in some systems the PCIe can be turned off in BIOS. I have A12 on this machine I have not found such a command. I did enable multiple monitors while in the BIOS. I've run the full Dell diagnostic suite, everything checks out 100%.

Before I do something more drastic I'm wondering if there something simple I'm overlooking?

Replacement power supply for XPS Studio 435mt

I usually leave my machines on permanently as they are set to download and install updates overnight, only switching off the monitors. Went on holiday and turned everything off but on my return the XPS would not respond to the power button - green light on the PS is on, but dim, amber light on the motherboard is on. Reseated the power cables, no change. Jumpered the green cable on the 24pin connector to a black one - PS fan starts up, but still no boot up. I suspect the PS is faulty but I am having difficulty locating an exact replacement - proprietary ones do not seem to have all the necessary cables.

I have found a 'Dell DW002 H750E-01 XPS 630 750W 24-Pin Power Supply' online - can anyone say if this will work in the XPS Studio 435mt?

Or can you suggest an alternative?

Regards

Dell AIO Black Screen of Death FIx

THere are several threads about the Dell XPS AIO 2710 experiencing the black screen of death. Basically the system when turned on only has a brief flash then nothing.

I had mine sent back to dell and told Dell I felt it was the motherboard but Dell disagreed and thought it was the monitor. After some time Dell agreed it was the motherboard but the cost was much more than I was willing to spend on this system for a fix, Dell did provide a refund and sent the system back.

I found someone that actually fixes motherboards and he found that the thermal paste that was used for the heatsink on the graphics chip was all dried up which caused it to fail thus cooking the graphics processor. He was able to replace the chip and reconnect the heatsink and it works fine.  I have seen several posts where the OS is blamed but from my experience its hardware. My AIO was running WIN10 for over a year without major issues.  If you are having the black screen of death with this system you may want to find someone that fix the motherboard.

Alienware System Virus

One day on my alienware X51 R3 i have receved a problem. The problem was i needed to incert a recovery disk because system 32 was deleted. However, i dont have my recovery disk. I dont know if it comes with your computer or if it is an additional accesory that you need to buy inorder to delete this virus that deletes system 32. I am asking dell if they can send me a free recovery disk since i didnt get one with my alienware. Im only asking one for free if it should come with the computer because once again Im not sure if an recovery disk is supposed to come with an alienware (i didnt get any disk). But, if an alienware recovery disk is just an accesory I will be sure to pay for it.

My questions:

Were can i buy the disk if im required to?

Does an alienware recovery disk come with your computer?

Is it possable for dell to send me me a free recovery disk, since i naver got one?

Thank you for reading till the end hopefully someone will be able to answer my questions.

CPU Fan Failure- XPS8300 i5-2500

I am a getting a "CPU Fan Failure" message when I boot up my XPS8300 desktop.

From reading other posts on the forums, I am trying to replace my fan. Is this correct?

How do I know to replace the regular fan at the back of the tower, or the heatsink+fan within the tower?

Precision T1500 - Maximum size DIMM card

I am buying a used T1500 and need to upgrade the memory to 16GB.

Crucial indicates that the largest usable DIMM is 4GB, but I see there are 8GB DIMMs available and wonder if anyone has tried to use one this large, with the otherwise proper specification.

Intermittent XPS 8700 PCI-E video card problem after MB replacement

$

I recently experienced an XPS 8700 motherboard failure (burning electronics smell, overheating of an IC on the MB, PS shutting off, etc).  I purchased and installed a replacement MB, transferred the CPU, SSD, etc and was able to get everything functioning except I have an intermittent problem with the stock Geforce GTX650 Ti video card preventing my system from booting.   It sometimes gets stuck with a black screen that never displays the Dell splash-screen.

After much troubleshooting, here is what I have learned:

1.  I can always boot with an older Radeon X800GT PCI-E video card installed (although it only supports a single monitor).

2.  I have intermittent boot success with the stock GTX650 video card.   If I do get it to boot, and then shut down, it may not reboot (e.g. appears stuck in the BIOS boot process).

3.  Thinking the GTX650 video card may be bad, I purchased a new GTX750Ti video card, however it too causes the system to get stuck in the boot process (same as the GTX650).    I have never gotten the new GTX750Ti to work in the computer.

4.  I measured all PS voltages and they are all good.

5.  I did update the MB BIOS firmware from A07 to A10.   Using the GTX650 card, it seemed to work for awhile, and I was thinking having the old firmware version was the problem.   However, after using the system for a few hours, it once again would get stuck on a power cycle/reboot.

Any help would be appreciated to help isolate the problem.

David
