I have a T7400 and I just received the 2 optional ram risers and the required CR388 power cable in the picture.

I know that the 2 power cables plug into the risers but where does the larger white plug labeled P24 plug into?

Samsung 950 pro ssd m.2 in pcie card not working.

Hey guys, new user here.

I recently bought an XPS 8900 and been having problems adding a Samsung 950 pro ssd installed in a pcie card. I wanted to use the ssd as my boot drive and the one Terabyte hard drive as storage. I installed the drivers and can see the drive in my computer but I'm having a hard time both booting from my usb drive to install windows 7 and when trying to clone drives using Acronis. While in Acroins i can see an error message but the screen flashes pretty fast so I can see where the error is. When I try boot from my thumb drive a have gotten a few different error messages as well.

I'll add more info as needed but wanted to get this thread going to see if maybe i'm missing a step or need to set something up in the bios.

Any help would be appreciated !

Thaks!

How to reinstall Win 10 on Optiflex 960

I bought a friend a refurbished Optiflex 960.  Unfortunately, he forgot his login password.  I suggested that he boot into BIOS (F2) and change the boot sequence so that his CD/USB drive appears at the top of the list of bootable drives.  After he hits the ESC key he's prompted whether he wants to save changes and he chooses "YES" and his computer reboots.  He has the reinstallation thumbdrive plugged in but upon reboot he keeps coming up to the Windows 10 login screen.  How does my friend reinstall Windows 10 from scratch so that he can start afresh and create a password that he'll write down and is easy for him to remember?  BTW, his thumbdrive's light does blink so it's not dead.  Thank you.

Auto on time issue

Hello guys. Please clarify for me following situation.

Using Dell Optiplex xe2.

After pressing F2 - enter to setup.

In Power Management > Auto on time > I've specified different time to wakeup (the same day)

For example:

01 pm

01_30 pm

01_40 pm

2_00 pm

2_15 pm

2_30 pm

2_40 pm

So sometime wake up works, sometime not.

Power strip is always on.

What can be the reason?

thanks

Awful noise on start up

I bought my XPS 8500 about 2 years ago, and about after a month I hear this awful grinding noise when I boot it up....it sounds like the arm on the HHD is grinding across the face of the disk but once it does that it works fine, but it does it every time I start up. I've since (lately) upgraded my memory from 8GB to 24GB and replaced the graphics card. Has anyone had this problem on the XPS8500? And should I replace it before it does fail?I'm now making an image on my external HD. The system info didn't give me a name of the Hard disk just says "Standard disk drive. One more question, can I put in another HDD in the other bay and keep a system on that?

Thank you

Upgrading my XPS 8100

Hey guys, I am looking for some advice about upgrading my computer.

I have an old Dell XPS 8100 machine with i7 2.80Ghz processor.

I upgraded the RAM a few years ago to 8Gb, I have a AMD Radeon HD 5700 card in there at the moment.

I want to upgrade to the best graphics card that the machine can take, I do not particularly want to buy a new case, or change the motherboard. I am not that tech savvy.

I would be happy upgrading the RAM if necessary and I expect to have to upgrade the PSU.
I don't want to have issues eg cooling , the case for the XPS isn't that gamer pc friendly but I don't particularly want to replace it.
I was thinking a 500W PSU and suitable graphics card, 2Gb at least. I want to future proof it as much as possible at this visit.
Can any make any recommendations?
Thanks

XPS 430 desktop PC fails to POST

Yesterday I started my computer. The power went on, then the hard drive activity light on the top of the computer lit up for about 10 seconds and then went off. The power light remained on and the power lights on the mouse and keyboard remained lit. The monitor remained black. All start-up activity ceased. Any suggestions where the problem is, and how to fix it? Thanks.

New hard drive installed to XPS 435t, things going downhill ever since

My original hard drive wouldn't boot, we ran Startup Repair for hours.  Finally ran the system assessment tool and it failed the drive.  Went out and bought a replacement drive, installed it.  The new drive is a SSHD (hybrid SSD and Hard drive).  I'd been making system image backups using Windows Backup, so I inserted the System Repair disk created in 2013 and had it put the image on the hard drive.  It created a recovery partition that was NTFS as well as the C drive partition, also NTFS.  So, first question, is that recovery patron supposed to be NTFS or Fat32?  Does it matter?

The reason I ask is that initially things seemed to be fine.  However, I got continual complaints about not running Genuine Windows, even though it showed as activated.  Also, I couldn't run Windows Update.  At all.  Worked with Microsoft on those issues repeatedly.  Seemed to get Update fixed, but then started having problems with patches causing restart problems and more Genuine Windows errors.  Decided to return to factory condition, using disks created with Dell Data Safe when I first unpacked the PC on 2009.  Was excited to see it was creating the recovery partition.  However, on reboot, it now had yet another NTFS partition labeled Recovery, and the original one was now unallocated space.  And this new Recovery partition is not in the first position.

Am thinking of just getting some partition software to merge the whole thing into one partition, but is this partition issue part of my Genuine Windows issue and/or my Update issues?  If I have the Dell disks initially received, do I need that parttion for anything?  If I do, how do I get it back at this point in the right format and position?  And if I have to create it separately, what is the right size?

Dell Laptop Starts, but Monitor Doesn't Turn on

Hello,

I have an older Dell Laptop (studio 1558) and the other day when I was using it, the monitor picture filled with 'static' and then the monitor went completely black.  Now when I turn it on it sounds like the computer starts up fine but the monitor is black.

So get an external monitor, easily solution, right? -- wrong.  Unfortunately when I hooked my laptop up to a separate monitor, the monitor (which works fine) did not display any images.

Again I have had this laptop for a few years.  I do notice that you have to be 'easy' opening and shutting the laptop.  This has been the case for a few years though, so I am not sure if something finally gave...

I'm not the most computer savvy so sorry if I wasn't more detailed.. any ideas what's wrong or how I can fix this?  I'd rather not bring it somewhere to get fixed.

At a loss on what's wrong with family member's Inspiron 570.

A family member asked me if I would look at their Inspiron 570 and my conclusion was something on the motherboard must of went bad because the PC was booting up but simply not detecting the display. I also tried using the display from my own computer and it also didn't detect it.

So, I bought a brand new motherboard and installed it and hooked everything back up and then powered it up and... display lights up and windows boots up and says it needs to repair itself because it detected a hardware change. Which makes sense, new motherboard. I leave it at that screen and come back and the display is suddenly off.

I press the power button on the tower and nothing happens. The computer acts as if it's getting zero power. No lights, no fans spinning up, nothing happens. I buy a brand new power supply and hook that up and the exact same thing happens. Nothing lights up. Nothing comes on.

I'm pretty confident in my abilities as I've built multiple custom gaming PC's but it's always possible I did something wrong. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on so I have somewhere to start from because as the subject says I'm at a complete loss as to what to try now.

Slow restart 8700 Windows 10

I had to reinstall Windows 10 a month or so ago with Dell Support help.  Since then, the previous very speedy restart (10 seconds or so) booting off the 256 GB SSD has deteriorated to 90 seconds.  I looked at information here and from Google searches and looked at the Event Viewer but there was no consistent application or driver that was taking a long time,  I did uninstall Dell Concierge since it came up a couple of times as taking extra time but that did not improve things. There were posts about a Dell Bluetooth driver problem but my system has an Intel card and reinstalling the driver did not help.  Shutdown is speedy enough and the system boots almost instantly from Shutdown since I understand with fast boot in place it is working off a saved cache instead of loading drivers and applications.

Hello.  I have many pictures is my photo gallery including scans, img and others.  Each item is assigned a number for example scan0001 and img001.  Lately pictures have been showing up in my photo gallery and are assigned numbers that start with B000...for example scan0001 is assigned a number such as B0001234.  Both the scan picture and the B000  picture remain in the photo gallery.  I have an external hard drive and thought that the B000 were backup numbers.  I have looked on google and asked the question about the B000 and have had no luck.  Can someone help.  Thank you.

Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF Won't start, Power LED on, CPU Fan quietly revving - FIXED by Updating BIOS :-)

Dell OptiPlex 9020 SFF

system won't show screen, power led is white, cpu fan revs, but not loudly.

Dell Support were friendly & helpful but didn't get me anywhere, so it's DIY :-).

Power supply test (button on PSU) runs OK when turned off and PSU led is green, so not a power supply problem.

Shutdown and remove power for 1min - no change.

Disconnect HDD, AMD graphics card & DVD & one (of 2) memory module- no change.

Remove both DIMM, pwr on - system beeps - good motherboard is alive :-)

Disconnect power, remove last Memory DIMM & swap for the other one & system boots into BIOS Menu (as there's no disks to boot from)

Pwr down, connect HDD - Pwr up -no screen, no boot. (After this you're back to a dead PC agian)

Long story short - ONLY if you change the DIMM & leave ONE DIMM by itself THEN will system start, but not if any disks are connected. (if you only have one DIMM use Slot2 which works)

The Fix.

Download Dell & Create Boot Disk - here (you can copy the URL, just delete the spaces)

In BIOS Menu, Disable SecureBoot, Change BIOS BOOT to Legacy

Run BIOS update from USB

Boot from usb & type BIOS package name o9020a16.exe, enter & you'll be updated to latest version

DON'T POWER OFF - the updater will restart by itself!

In BIOS Menu, Change Boot to UEFI, enable SecureBoot (if you don't you can have startup problems)

Connect HDD & other components & you should be good to go!

Dell Inspiron 518 00 starts to turn on and hangs

My computer was running fine. I booted down to plug in a new power strip. When I booted back up, it turns on and hangs on the Dell screen with the progress bar just past the 1/3 point. I've tried this several times, exactly the same result.

I don't see a way to post a screenshot (picture taken by my tablet) or I would.

[Solved] T5500 Workstation continuous beep with high CPU usage.

I have a T5500, and anytime I stress the CPUs the system starts a continuous, constant beep noise.

The system still appears to run normally and the CPU temps are also under control, just the annoying sound.

I do not see a continuous sound anywhere in the manual so I don't know what this means.

This is an old machine and out of warranty so if I cannot find the problem, can I just turn off or disconnect the speaker making the noise?

Thanks.

XPS One 2720 slow startup after Win10 upgrade

Before, with Windows 8 and 8.1, my 2720 would only take about 30 seconds to do a complete boot-up. After Windows 10 upgrade, It take about 10-15 MINUTES to get pass the Dell splash screen. I've checked for the latest drivers, which I have. ran Malware checks and bug checks; all clean. I'm guessing there is a driver issue with one of the components looking for something, but Device Manager shows no problem. Anyone have any ideas?
