T5500, error lights 2 3 4 blink no boot

$

Hey all! Hope there's some help around... My t5500 randomly died. Would turn on for a few seconds, without booting then turn itself off. Swapped MB out, now get 234 blinking diagnostic lights (halted before transfer to BIOS control, and the fans slowly get louder.). This is with three different motherboards, two different cpus, two GPUs, two power supplies. If the BIOS isn't being transferred to, could it be corrupted? Is there a way to flash a new BIOS externally myself? This was such a great tower, and I'd rather keep it running than replace. 6x2gig RAM. First gen MB with fans on both bridges. Nvidia gtx 950 or fx1800 available. Single CPU e5530 quadcore. Terabyte Seagate 7200rpm. Any questions or input is welcome. I cannot work without my station being operational. Thanks all

Floppy drive issues on Dell Optiplex 466/l

Hello. I am new to this forum so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I was wondering if I could have some help with Floppy drives on a dell Optiplex 466/l from 1994. I am trying to install a hard drive and I need a Windows 95 install 3.5" 1.44mb floppy disks. I got an image online but when I put it in the floppy drive it says "diskette drive 0 seek failure". So I got a floppy drive from my sell dimension 4600(which I used to make the image) and the Optiplex said " diskette read failure". All the posts online for these errors say to disable floppy drive but I can't do that because I need both the floppy and hard drive. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Heres a little program that will stop it from downloading and you can turn it back on if you want it.

Hi,

I've just bought en recieved a brand new Inspiron 3650. I want to add an additional hard drive to my system. I read that I can only add 2.5 inch hard drives, because the system already has an 3.5 inch hard drive.

The problem is that I cannot find a power source to connect the hard drive. In my old Inspiron 600 I had plenty of powers sources.

Thanks for the help.

Dell Inspiron 3847 Desktop Samsung Evo SSD not showing in boot options. . .Help!!

Hi everyone,

I am brand new on the forum and I have signed up specifically because I am having some problems with the Samsung SSD drive in my Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop,

At the moment I have it connected to sata port 0, exactly where the original HDD was plugged in. Although I am able to boot straight to Windows on the SSD with this configuration, I am unable to choose it as my primary boot drive because it is not showing in the boot menu, in a nutshell it is not listed in the bootable devices when I enter BIOS,

I spent around half an hour talking to a Dell technician on the telephone who walked me through some steps in the bios, but it still didn't show,

I contacted Dell support again today and spoke to a rather rude Guy in technical support who told me he could not help me with this, because the Inspiron 3847 has not been tested by Dell for SSD compatibility, he was most adamant that he could not help,

I am very frustrated by this whole affair because I have read articles, on this particular Forum in fact that suggests it is possible to install an SSD in this model,

Is there anybody within the community you can offer some support and tell me where I might be going wrong with this?, in its current configuration the SSD is working really great and fast, I'm just so confused as to why I can't use it as my primary drive?. I have formatted my original HDD and was planning to use this as extra storage,

If someone could help me with this I would be really grateful,

Many thanks,

Mr Anthony

Inspiron 660s tower crashes and then 2 beeps repeating

$

NOTE: This is NOT a POST beep code. This is after the box has been running awhile (either in Windows 7 or most recently after booting from the Memtest86 CD). Possibly, after it crashes, it then tries to reboot and then the 2 beeps? (If so, then the 2 beeps are POST related)

I searched, but didn't find anything that seems to relate to beep codes after the box has been up and running for awhile, and then crashes and gives a beep code. In this case, the beep code is 2 beeps, a pause, 2 more beeps, etc.

Question: Am I correct, to believe that this is because of a RAM DIMM that has failed, or, a bad RAM slot on the motherboard, or do those beeps indicate something else?

I believe it is a HW problem, and that I've eliminated the hard disk drive causing the issue, because the first thing I tried to do was run Memtest86 and after that ran for approximately 15 or 20 minutes, after booting from the Memtest86 CD, it crashed and then the 2 beeps.

Thank you, in advance, for your time and help! Lanny

(Redirected) Alienware Alpha warranty transfer help. No response... Need to take care of this asap.

Okay so I had bought an alienware alpha on ebay. It worked okay up until a little while ago. I contacted support to try and get it repaired. Was told i needed a warrenty transfer from the previous owner to myself. Its still in warrenty for 35 more days through dell.. I contacted chat and they said they transfered the tag to my name. So then I called support back since the tag was supposdely in my name now. Low and behold right before they were going to order a new mother board for it. The support agent (phone) says that the warrent still was not in my name as I was told before that it was, and that she cant do it unless its in my name. Soo yeah im stumped now.

So again, initially I tried to do the online warranty transfer even though all I know about the person I bought it from is the two invoices that I got from ebay and paypal of the purchase that was a few months ago ( I bought it used originally). I just put that info in but still no response... I emailed the seller and still no response.

The funny thing is that the guy I talked to on live chat said it was all in my name now. Yet when I called in by phone, the lady said that it wasnt letting her submit the request to get the motherboard swapped out. and that it (the previous owners warrenty) was "mostly blank". Yet when I tried to register it is says its already registered...and wont let me put my info.  IDK im so confused. I just want my machine to have a new motherboard (freezing issues, its complicated)  :( If anyone out there at dell can help me.. Everytime i try to email I NEVER get a response... ugghh. I have my case number if that helps. I have my tag number, express tag, etc.... heelp plzzz before my warranty runs out...

Desktop in sleep mode won't boot up

I have an old Inspiron 546 desktop.  It started not coming out of sleep mode a few weeks ago.  I was able to get it started by unplugging and plugging back in for a while.  I shut down before going on vacation.  Now I am unable to get it out of sleep mode.  I've searched the Forums and tried a few suggestions (removing cards/battery and reinstalling, for example).  Still no luck.  Power button is solid amber.  I've disconnected everything but keyboard.  Did not help.

Can anyone help or do I need to take it to the shop?  I know I should have replaced the thing before now out, but would like to get it going again if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Likely broken hard drive, but I am under warranty. How best to contact Dell?

$

About a month ago my computer had a "SMART event" which I found out means an early warning sign that the hard drive was about to fail. I've only owned this Dell PC for 2 years and have either a three or four year warranty. Today the computer started flashing weird image patterns on the screen and then froze on one of them. I tried to restart the computer multiple times, but each time I just see different bizarre lines on the screen and the PC immediately freezes.

I'm pretty sure this is the defective hard drive that the SMART event was warning about. My questions are:

1. What is the best way to contact Dell? By phone, email, some kind of live chat? Any specific phone number or email or link for what is the best way would be highly appreciated.

2. What are Dell's customer service days and hours?

3 Do I need any information other than my Service Tag and Express Service Tag? What are the difference between the two?

4. If it is the hard drive that needs to be placed, how will that happen? I don't really know how to take apart a computer. Would Dell send somebody? Would they make sure to reinstall Windows? I have no idea what the procedure for this would be.

Thank you so much in advance for your answers.

Precision T7500 freeze / crash issue with weird error code

$

So I have a Precision T7500 and it is doing an odd thing. Every once and a while it will totally freeze. The caps lock light on the keyboard won't even turn on and off, and holding down the power button won't turn it off. After unplugging it and plugging it back in, it turns on and gives an error of an orange flashing power light and a flashing 2. After a few times of unplugging it and plugging it back in it stops having that error and boots up fine. It sometimes has gone weeks without doing it, but it seems to be happening more, and it has done it 4 times today. The issue is that I can't reproduce it. I have run various CPU and memory burner programs on it and pinned everything to 100% use for hours and it is stable. I have run both Dell's onboard memory test and memtest from online. The weirdest thing by far though is that if you look up the error code, which is an orange flashing power button and a flashing number 2, according to Dell's page for this computer, that code does not exist and as far as they are concerned it can't show this code.

It has 2  Xeon x5675 CPUs along with 32gb ram (4 8gb sticks, 2 in the mainboard and 2 in the riser card). The GPU doesn't matter because I have tried a different known working one and still had the problem happen.

Does anyone have any experience on this or have any clues about this odd error code?

No Boot Device

Hi so just now my Dell laptop has been saying "no boot device,  press any key to reboot" so I do that and it goes to "checking media_" which takes me back to the no boot device.  I'm stuck in a loop and I have a really important exam on Tuesday with all of my work on it. Is there a way of getting it to switch on or recover the data because I've been reading and everything suggests a hard drive fault... Thanks in advance

Dell Inspiron 530 upgrade options

$

Folks,

hoping somebody can assit here.  I have an old Inspiron 530 mini tower desktop.  Not sure of the uP or MB model.

Got it new in 2007 and it has been generally a reliable PC, had one raid drive fail which I replaced and recently video card has failed so running off embedded VGA port.  Power supply has just failed and replacing that with one from ebay.

Now I know 99% are thinking buy a new one!  Finances don't allow that but I could probably afford some upgrades if cheap enough.

Replacement Video card is easy however I'd like a bit more grunt to deal with the new OS WIN10 & associated programs out now so looking at potentially a MB upgrade.

Can anyone advise suitable upgrade option for a Dell MB that that would fit the mini tower and power 300 W supply?

thanks in advance.

cheers

aux_pwr amber light is ON

Recently, I lost wifi connection completely on my XPS 8700. The computer cannot detect any router. I noticed that the Realtek wireless adapter was missing in the device manager. Fortunately, the Dell wireless adapter was still available. After enabling this adapter, wifi connection worked again. However, during this trouble shooting, I found that the aux_pwr light turned on even if I shut down the computer.

My questions are:

1. Is the Realtek wireless adapter dead?

2.Why does the aux_pwr light turn on - solid amber light? Is it related to the Realtek wireless adapter issue or it indicate some other issues in my computer?

3. Can I turn off the aux_pwr light or how to trouble shoot? I don't think the aux_pwr light on is normal.

So far, the computer is working fine. Surely, I haven't tested all functionality.

Any help is appreciated!

Precision T7500 SPD info not available

$

Hi everyone,

Recently I switched from Precision T7400 to T7500. With my old T7400 I was used to see a lot of temperature sensors, including for each DIMM module. I know that DDR3 10600R is much colder than DDR2-5300F and that's not my concern.

My problem is that I can't get SPD info with any program I've tried - AIDA,CPU-Z, HWMonitor, hwInfo, some benchmarks. The only info I can get is with WMIC (wmic memorychip) - it says at least dimm PartNumber.

When I checked userbenchmark site for other T7500 results, I noticed that they also do not provide detailed info about memory, most of them are "unknown xxGB", same as mine.

My question is : is that a limitation of motherboard/chipset, software limitation(but I checked at least 6 different programs) and all says nothing(except wmic) or what? Is there any dell update/driver that I need to install to see this info as expected?

Hope someone can answer.

Regards
